Halo, split shank and leaves

The halo around the round is shaped as a soft cushion rather than a circle, giving the head a slightly antique outline edged with milgrain. The band divides into two strands as it approaches the halo, and along each strand small marquise diamonds are set at angles like leaves, with tiny rounds between them. From above, the ring reads as a flower with its stem and leaves, and it has far more movement and detail than a plain halo.

The round brilliant

The round brilliant is the most precisely engineered diamond cut, with 57 or 58 facets set to return as much light as possible through the top of the stone. At the heart of this ornate setting, its bright sparkle holds the design together.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Rose gold suits the botanical vintage look especially well, while white gold makes the leaves look like frost. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K is the everyday balance, and 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The halo is built around your round, the split shank is shaped by hand, and every marquise leaf and round accent is set under a microscope. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush gently around the halo and between the strands of the shank. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The accents are matched to the same grade.

Is this a genuine antique? No. It is newly made to order in a vintage inspired style.

Is a split shank comfortable? Yes. It rejoins into a single band at the back of the finger.

Will a wedding band sit flush? A curved band sits best against the split shoulders and halo.

Can it be resized? Within limits. The single band at the back allows adjustment.
