Why six claws

A four claw head shows a little more of the diamond and gives a squarer outline. Six claws hold the stone more securely, spread any knocks across more points, and make the round look rounder from above. It is the classic choice for a larger round diamond, and at 3 to 5 carats that extra security is worth having.

How it differs from our other round pave rings

Our round pave ring carries close to a carat of pave on a fuller band, and our thin pave band ring uses a finer shank. This one pairs a six claw head with a moderate run of pave, around a third of a carat, for a balanced, classic look.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. White gold makes the pave read as a ribbon of light, while yellow and rose gold frame each small stone with warmth. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K is the everyday balance, and 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The six claw head is sized to your stone, the pave is set bead by bead under a microscope, and the ring is finished for your carat weight and finger size. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush along the pave and under the head. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The pave is matched to the same grade.

Do six claws hide more of the diamond? Very slightly, but the claws are fine and the trade off is extra security.

How far does the pave go? Along the top half of the band, where it is seen when worn.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes. The head sits above the band.

Can it be resized? Yes. The lower half of the band is plain.
