Brilliant on brilliant

The round brilliant is engineered for maximum sparkle, with every facet angled to return light through the top of the stone. Pave accents are cut the same way. Putting them together gives a ring where the whole visible surface is working: the centre throws big flashes of fire and the band adds a fine, continuous glitter beneath it.

The pave here is generous, with close to a carat of accent diamonds in total. That weight gives the band real presence, so it holds its own beside a 4 or 5 carat centre stone rather than disappearing under it.

How the pave is set

Each small diamond sits in a bead raised by hand from the metal and pushed over its edge under a microscope. Even beads and level stones are what make pave look like a single line of light, and they are what keep the stones secure over years of wear.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. White metal makes the pave band read as a continuous ribbon of light, while yellow and rose gold frame each small stone with warmth. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K is the everyday balance, and 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. We raise every bead along the band by hand, set the pave and the centre stone, and polish the ring for your carat weight and finger size. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Pave holds soap, so brush along the band as well as under the head once a fortnight. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth, and take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The pave diamonds are matched to the same grade.

How much pave is on the band? Close to a carat of small diamonds in total, which is why the band sparkles so strongly.

Can pave stones fall out? It is uncommon when beads are raised properly by hand, which is why we set pave in house.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes. The head is raised on claws above the band.

Can it be resized? Yes, within limits. A section at the base of the band is kept plain for resizing.
