Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%A round brilliant lab grown diamond held by four claws set at the diagonals rather than at the top, bottom and sides, on a shank whose pave wraps over the edge and continues down both outer walls. The claw orientation is a small rotation with a visible consequence.
On most four claw rings the claws sit at twelve, three, six and nine o'clock relative to the band. That puts one claw at the very top of the stone, which is the first place the eye lands when the hand is held out, and another at the very bottom where it meets the shank. Rotating the whole head by forty five degrees moves all four claws to the diagonals, so the vertical and horizontal axes of the diamond are left completely clear. The outline the eye actually traces when judging a round stone is that vertical and horizontal cross, and with no metal on it the stone reads as a cleaner circle. There is a second effect. Claws at the diagonals align with the four corners of the shank and the pave running down each side, so the metal of the head appears to grow out of the band rather than sitting on top of it, and the ring reads as one object rather than a stone and a mount.
The shank is squared in section so it presents three surfaces to set, and the pave wraps continuously from one wall over the top face to the other. Squaring the band is what allows the wrap; on a round wire the side stones would sit at an angle and catch.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Yellow gold is shown in the photographs, where the warm claws at the diagonals read as four small points rather than as a frame.
The ring is made to your finger size. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure, we will send you a printable size guide before we begin work, and we adjust the pave count so the wrap stays even at any size in our range.
We can change the carat weight, the centre stone shape, rotate the claws back to the axes or set the top face only. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and our workshop will prepare a quotation and a rendering before any metal is cut.
Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It is carbon in the same crystal structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness and the same optical properties, graded on the same scales.
Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.
Why are the claws on the diagonals
It clears metal off the vertical and horizontal axes of the stone, which is the outline the eye traces when judging a round diamond, so the circle reads cleaner.
Is the hold as secure
Yes. Four evenly spaced claws hold identically wherever they are positioned around the circle; only the orientation changes.
Why is the round brilliant graded differently to other shapes
It is the only cut for which the major laboratories issue a full cut grade, because its symmetry can be measured against an agreed ideal.
Can this ring be resized
Within a modest range. The pave runs most of the way round, so resizing means resetting a short section, which we do at cost after the first year.
How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. Wrapped pave is slow work, so production usually takes fourteen to eighteen working days before dispatch.
A lab grown diamond gives you a larger stone and a higher colour and clarity grade for the same budget, with a traceable origin and no mining. On a round brilliant, where a full cut grade is available, that budget can go into the cut quality rather than only the weight.
Mapple Gems is a jewellery workshop in Surat, India, the city where a large share of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. We grow, cut, grade and set in one place, which is why we can offer certified stones in fully hallmarked gold at workshop prices.
