A princess cut lab grown diamond set square to the band and held in a half bezel, with metal folded over the top and bottom edges and the two sides left completely open. There are no claws anywhere on this ring. The reason to build a princess this way is that its four sharp ninety degree corners are the most fragile part of the stone, and a wall of solid metal protects them far better than four thin prongs. Wrapping only two edges rather than all four keeps the full width of the square visible, so you lose no spread. Set square rather than turned on the diagonal, the stone reads as a clean geometric block, which is the most architectural look in our range and the one that sits closest to the finger. Band details

A slim round band with a high polish, unbroken all the way around and set with no stones. The bezel walls rise directly from the shank with no gallery beneath, so the stone sits as low against the finger as possible. Nothing else is added.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, turns the two bezel walls into deliberate bars of warm colour framing a colourless square. White gold and sterling silver let the metal recede so only the geometry registers. Rose gold is the softest.

Frequently asked questions

What is a half bezel?
A wall of metal folded over two opposite edges of the stone, leaving the other two open. It gives the security of a bezel where the stone is most vulnerable while keeping most of the diamond exposed.

Why does a princess cut need corner protection?
A princess has four sharp ninety degree corners and those are the most chip prone points on the stone. Enclosing them in solid metal is genuinely safer than relying on four thin claws.

Does a half bezel make the diamond look smaller?
No. The two open sides show the full width of the square, which is the dimension the eye measures. A full bezel would cover the outer edge all the way round and could reduce the apparent size.

Square or diagonal?
Set square, as here, the stone reads as a clean geometric block and aligns with the line of the band. Set on the diagonal it becomes a kite and looks far more unconventional. We build either at the same price.

Is this good for people who work with their hands?
It is among the most practical settings we make. No claws to catch or bend, a low profile, and the fragile corners enclosed.

What is a princess cut?
A square stone with a brilliant faceting pattern beneath, so it returns light in bright flashes like a round while keeping a sharp geometric outline. It gives more spread per carat than most square cuts.
