Pear Cut Moissanite Twisted Pave Marquise Leaf Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

A pear cut moissanite in six ball tipped claws on a shank made of two pave set ribbons that twist around one another, with marquise cut accents set into the openings the twist leaves at each shoulder. The head itself is plain, so all the decoration sits on the band and beside the stone rather than around it.

Two set ribbons, not one

Both strands of this twist carry micropave along their length. That is what separates it from the lighter twist designs, where one strand is left plain to keep the ring delicate. Here the whole shank is set, so the band reads as continuous light rather than as alternating metal and stones.

Where the two ribbons separate at the shoulders they leave elongated openings, and a marquise cut accent is set into each of those spaces, angled so its points follow the direction of the twist. Those marquise are the largest accents on the ring and they act as the link between the busy band and the plain setting above.

We list three rings with twisting pave shanks and they differ in what happens above the band, which is the thing to look at.

Our Marquise Wreath Braided Pave ring has a similar braided shank but adds a full wreath of marquise and round stones completely surrounding the centre, plus pierced scrollwork inside the shoulders. It is the largest and most decorated ring in our pear range.

Our Split Shank Vine ring divides into two separate branches that loop apart, one plain and one set, with a single marquise at each junction. Open and botanical rather than woven.

This ring keeps the fully set twist and the marquise accents but leaves the head completely plain, with simple ball tipped claws and no wreath, no hidden halo and no gallery detail. It is the middle option: considerably more band decoration than the split shank, considerably less head decoration than the wreath. If you liked the braided band in the wreath ring but found the head too much, this is the one.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger. Because nothing surrounds it, the pear reads at its true size and shape rather than being framed.

The accents are marquise and round moissanite. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the accents scaled to keep proportion.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the twist is easiest to read because the warm metal between the two set ribbons makes the crossing visible. In white metal the whole band becomes one bright rope of light and the twist is subtler. Rose gold sits between the two. Silver gives the white effect for much less. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest in colour and softest. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set both ribbons and the marquise accents, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, worked into the groove where the two ribbons cross and around each marquise. A twisted set band has more places for hand cream to sit than a flat one, and a clogged twist loses its definition, so a proper brush rather than a wipe is worth the minute it takes. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not fully. The twist gives the shank a wavy outline, so a straight band meets it only at the crossing points. A contoured band works better, and many people wear this design on its own.

Can it be resized? Within a narrow range. Both ribbons are set with stones, which limits how far the shank can be worked. Please get the size right and write to us if you are unsure.

Are the marquise points protected? Yes, each has a claw over both points.

Do the small stones fall out? Properly set pave does not, but a fully set band is more vulnerable to knocks than a plain one. Have the settings checked every couple of years.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
