Pear Cut Moissanite Three Stone Raised Gallery Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

Three pear cut moissanite stones, all of them lifted. The centre pear sits in six claws and a matching pear sits on each side, turned east to west so the points face outward down the finger. What makes this ring different from the usual three stone is height. The whole head sits on a tall open gallery, so the side stones are carried up level with the crown of the centre stone instead of tucking down against the band. Seen in profile you can look straight through the gallery and see daylight underneath all three stones.

What the raised gallery does

Lifting the head off the finger changes the ring in three ways. Light gets underneath the stones from every direction, so all three pears stay bright even indoors where a low set ring goes dull. The ring reads taller and more architectural on the hand rather than flat. And the open gallery makes the piece feel lighter than its size suggests, because you are seeing air through it rather than a solid block of metal.

The trade off is honest and worth knowing. A raised head sits higher off the finger, so it catches on jumper sleeves and pockets more readily than a low profile ring, and it takes a little more care around bags and gloves. If you work with your hands all day, a low set design will suit you better and we have several.

How this compares with our other pear three stone rings

The Pear Cut Moissanite Three Stone East West ring has much larger side stones on a wider band, so the three pears share the attention almost equally. The Petite Three Stone version has small side pears tucked in close on a very slim band, sitting low, for someone who wants a quiet ring.

This one sits between them in stone size but stands apart on height. Its distinguishing feature is the tall open gallery and the way the side stones are lifted and angled slightly upward rather than laid flat. Please look at the side photographs of all three before you decide, because the difference is much clearer in profile than from above.

The stones

All three stones are pear cut moissanite. Pear is a brilliant cut, so the facets return light as bright flashes of white and coloured fire rather than the broad mirror flashes of a step cut. Repeating the same shape across all three stones gives the ring a rhythm that a pear centre with round sides does not have.

Every stone we set is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, centre and sides alike. Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond among stones you would wear every day.

You choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. The side stones are scaled in proportion, so a 5 carat centre comes with larger sides and the ring keeps its balance instead of looking top heavy.

The band

The shank is a smoothly tapered rounded band, wider where it meets the gallery and narrowing toward the back of the finger. That taper is deliberate. It makes the head look larger by comparison and keeps the ring comfortable to wear all day, because the thickest metal is where you need the strength and the thinnest is where it sits against your palm.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Silver is the most affordable route into the design and gives a bright white finish. 10K is the hardest of the golds and resists scratches best. 14K is the balance most buyers choose for daily wear. 18K has the richest colour, particularly in yellow, and is the softest. White gold is rhodium plated for brightness, which needs renewing every one to two years depending on wear.

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives. That is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations rather than the handful a stock holding shop can carry.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Give attention to the open gallery underneath, because that is where soap and skin oil collect on a raised setting and it is the first place a ring loses its life. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it clear of bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will it catch on clothing? More than a low set ring, yes. Not badly, but you will notice it on knitwear. That is the honest cost of the height.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Yes. Because the head is lifted, a straight flat band sits flush underneath without needing to be contoured, which is actually easier than with many low set three stone rings.

Are the side stone points protected? Yes, each side pear has a claw over its point. Pear points are the vulnerable part of the shape on any ring and we give them extra metal coverage.

Do the three stones look the same colour? Yes. We match centre and sides for colour and clarity before setting.

What if I choose the wrong size? Write to us. Since we make each ring to order, we would much rather help you get it right before we cast than resize afterwards.
