A pear cut moissanite between two long slim kite cut side stones, set point outward, with the shank finishing in a small polished bead just beyond each kite. The band is plain and rounded, and apart from the three stones and those two beads there is nothing else on the ring.

We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.

Please read this before you choose

We list two pear three stone rings with kite cut sides and they are the closest pair in our whole pear collection. We would rather point that out than let you order the wrong one.

On our other kite ring, the Kite Side Stone Three Stone, the kites are broad and squat, roughly as wide as they are long, and they sit snug against the centre with the band flowing straight into the setting.

On this ring the kites are noticeably longer and narrower. They reach further out along the finger, they sit with a small gap of metal between themselves and the centre stone, and the shank stops at a rounded polished bead just past each one rather than running smoothly into them.

The result is that this version looks more elongated and slightly more delicate, and the other looks more compact and more solid. Put the two top photographs side by side at full size and the difference is clear. If you cannot decide, the practical point is that this ring covers more length of finger and the other covers more width.

The bead finish

The small round bead at each end of the shank is not decoration for its own sake. It gives the band a defined stopping point, so the eye reads the three stones and the two beads as one composed group rather than as stones interrupting a continuous ring. It is a detail borrowed from antique jewellery, where terminating a shank rather than letting it simply run out was standard practice.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.

The sides are kite cut moissanite. A kite is four sided, tapering to a point at each end, with larger flatter facets than a round brilliant, so it flashes in broad planes rather than twinkling. Setting them beside a brilliant cut centre is a deliberate contrast between two ways of handling light.

Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting. This matters on a three stone ring because the sides are large enough that any colour difference would be plain to see.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why the pear fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the kites scaled to match.

The band

A slim rounded shank, plain and polished, running from bead to bead around the finger. No stones below the kites, so it resizes readily and a wedding band sits close.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the beads and claws read as small warm punctuation between the three white stones. In white metal the three stones merge into one long bright line, which suits the elongated shape of this design particularly well. Silver gives that white effect for much less. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest in colour and softest. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. There is very little on this ring to trap dirt. Brush around the claws and under the three stones, rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Are the long kite points fragile? The points are the vulnerable part of any kite, and because these kites are slim their points are finer than on our broader kite ring. Each point has a claw over it, and they sit low against the band, but if you are hard on jewellery the broader version is the sturdier of the two and we would say so.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes. The kites sit low and the band is plain below them.

Can it be resized? Yes, comfortably. There are no stones in the shank.

Does it make the finger look longer? Yes, more so than most three stone rings, because the slim kites carry the line of the ring further along the finger in both directions.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
