Pear Cut Moissanite Petite Twisted Vine Pave Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

Two slender strands of metal wind around each other from the shoulders down. One strand is left plain and polished, the other is set with a fine line of small round moissanite. Above them a pear cut moissanite sits in six claws. That is the whole ring, and its appeal is that it stays delicate while still catching light along the band.

Why the twist works on a slim ring

A straight pave band puts a single row of stones in a straight line. A twist takes that same row and curves it, so as the strand winds round the finger the stones face slightly different directions. The practical effect is that some part of the line is always catching light no matter how your hand is turned, and you get that from a very small number of stones.

Pairing a set strand with a plain one is deliberate. The polished strand gives the eye a break and keeps the ring reading as a fine piece of metalwork rather than a solid band of sparkle. It also keeps the price down, because half the twist carries no stones.

How this compares with our other twisted pear rings

Our Marquise Wreath Braided Pave ring also has a crossing shank, but both of its ribbons are pave set, it is roughly 3 mm wide, and it carries a full marquise wreath around the centre. It is a large, formal ring and priced accordingly.

This one is the petite version of the idea. Slim, no halo, one set strand and one plain, and it sits close to the finger. If you like the twist but want something you can wear every day without thinking about it, this is that ring.

Our Twisting Milgrain Vine ring is a different thing again, an organic nature design with leaves and beaded edges rather than a clean geometric twist.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. Pear is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire. The point of the pear runs up the finger and elongates it, which is a large part of why this shape is so often chosen.

The accent stones along the twist are small rounds. Every stone in the ring, centre and accents, is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity. We match the accents to the centre before setting so the band does not read warmer or greyer than the stone above it.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. The slim twist flatters the smaller sizes particularly well, because there is so little metal that the stone looks larger than it measures. At 4 and 5 carat the ring becomes quite dramatic, a big stone floating over almost nothing.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown here in white gold. Rose gold suits a twist particularly well because the two strands read as different tones as they wind past each other. Silver gives a bright white finish for much less. 10K is the hardest gold and most scratch resistant, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest in colour and the softest. White gold is rhodium plated and will need replating every one to two years.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, working the brush into the groove where the two strands cross, because that is where soap collects. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Is the band strong enough at that width? Yes. Two twisted strands are structurally stronger than one strand of the same total thickness, which is one of the reasons the design exists. It is still a slim ring though, so treat it as one.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not completely. The twist gives the shank a wavy outline, so a flat band touches at the high points and leaves small gaps. A matching twisted band or a curved band solves it, or wear this one alone.

Can it be resized? Within about a size either way. The set strand limits how far it can be stretched, so please try to order the right size and write to us if you are unsure.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw. Pear points are the vulnerable part of the shape on any ring.

Does it look cheap next to a solid pave band? No, it looks different. There is less metal and fewer stones, which is exactly what makes it delicate. If you want weight and coverage, our fuller pave designs will suit you better and we would rather point you there than oversell this one.
