Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%A pear cut moissanite in six claws with one small kite cut moissanite set on each side, sitting low and close against the centre, on a plain slim rounded band with no other stones anywhere.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
Three stone rings usually announce themselves. The side stones are large, they sit high, and from a distance the ring reads as a row of three rather than as one stone with company.
This one is deliberately the opposite. The kites are small, roughly a fifth the length of the centre, and they are set low so their tops finish below the widest part of the pear. The result is that from a normal viewing distance you see a pear cut solitaire, and only when you look properly do the two small angular stones resolve at the sides. It is a three stone ring for someone who does not want a three stone ring to look like one.
The shank is plain, round in section and thin, and it stays that way all the way to the head. No pave, no shaping, nothing to compete.
We list three pear rings with kite cut sides and they are genuinely different in scale, which is the thing that matters.
Our Kite Cut Three Stone ring has broad, squat kites that sit snug to the centre and fill the shoulders. It is the boldest of the three and reads clearly as a three stone ring.
Our Slim Kite Three Stone ring has long, narrow kites with small bead finials at the outer points, which stretch the ring along the finger.
This ring has the smallest kites of the three and the lowest profile, on the thinnest band. If you want the three stone idea at its most understated, or if you are worried a three stone ring will look too big on a narrow finger, this is the one to choose.
A kite is a four sided stone with two long edges meeting at a point. Set with the point outwards, its angled edges echo the taper of the pear and lead the eye back to the centre, which a round accent does not do. The flat inner edge also sits close to the pear without a visible gap.
The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.
The two side stones are kite cut moissanite. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting.
Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the kites scaled to keep them subordinate at every size.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, where the plain band and the warm claws make a very traditional looking ring. White metal makes the three stones read as one continuous line of light because there is nothing coloured separating them. Rose gold is the softest looking of the three. Silver gives the white effect for much less. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set all three stones, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.
This is one of the easiest of our rings to keep clean, because there is no pave and no openwork. Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush around the claws and under the head. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Mostly yes. The kites sit low but they do sit slightly proud of the shank, so a straight band may leave a small gap right at the centre. A contoured band closes it.
Can it be resized? Yes, easily. The whole lower shank is plain, which is the best case for resizing.
Are the kite points protected? Yes, each outer point has its own claw over it.
Will the small kites look lost next to a 5 carat centre? They stay proportional because we scale them with the centre, but they are always meant to be subordinate. If you want side stones that hold their own, choose one of our other two kite designs.
Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
