Pear Cut Moissanite Gold Leaf and Bezel Accent Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

A pear cut moissanite in six claws with shoulders made of solid sculpted leaves in polished metal, alternating with small round accents each set in its own bezel. Leaf, stone, leaf, stone, and then the band runs plain to the palm. There is no pave anywhere on this ring, and the leaves themselves carry no stones at all.

Metal doing the work instead of stones

Most decorated engagement rings decorate with gemstones. This one decorates with metal. The leaves are shaped, filed and polished forms, each with a slight curl and a defined edge so they catch light along their length the way a real leaf does when it turns.

Between each pair of leaves sits a single small round moissanite in a closed bezel. The bezels are there to punctuate rather than to sparkle. Four small stones on each shoulder, spaced out, framed in metal, so the eye moves leaf, glint, leaf, glint down the band.

The result is a ring that reads as goldsmithing. It costs less than our pave designs because there are far fewer stones to set, and it looks quite different from all of them, which is the point rather than a compromise.

This one is the only one where the leaves are solid metal with nothing set into them. If you like botanical jewellery but find pave too busy, or you simply prefer the look of worked gold to the look of small diamonds, this is the design for you. It is also the most affordable of the three.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger. With no pave to compete, the centre is unambiguously the only significant stone on the ring.

The accents are small round moissanite in closed bezels. A bezel is the most secure setting there is for a small stone, because the metal grips the whole girdle rather than four points of it, and there is nothing raised to catch on clothing.

Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity. Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why the pear fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat, with the leaves and accents scaled to suit.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, and we will say plainly that this design is at its best in a warm metal, because when the decoration is the metal itself the colour of that metal matters more than usual. 18K yellow gives the richest leaves. Rose gold reads softer and more romantic. In white metal the leaves become subtle and the ring reads almost as a plain solitaire from a distance. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, shape, set, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.

Care

The easiest decorated ring in our collection to look after, because there is no pave to clog. Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft brush, with a little attention where the leaves meet the band. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. A polished leaf that has gone dull comes back with a soft cloth alone. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Reasonably well. The leaves give the shoulders a shaped edge, so a flat band sits close but not perfectly level along the top. The lower shank is plain, which helps.

Can it be resized? Yes, within a reasonable range. The lower part of the shank carries no stones and no leaves.

Why are there no stones in the leaves? Because the design is about the metal. Setting stones into them would turn it into a different ring, and we list that ring separately.

Will the leaves scratch? Polished flat metal shows fine scratches sooner than a textured or stone set surface does. That is true of any polished gold. They buff out, and 10K resists them best if this concerns you.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
