Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%A pear cut moissanite set low on a smooth rounded band, with two things happening underneath it that you cannot see from above. The claws cross over each other beneath the stone to form an X shaped gallery, and a hidden halo of small round moissanite runs around the base of the setting. The band itself is completely plain, deliberately so, because on this ring all the work is under the stone.
We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.
On most solitaires the claws rise straight up from the shank in four or six separate posts. Here the metal from each shoulder splits and the arms cross over one another under the stone before rising into the claws, which forms an X when you look at the ring from the side.
That is not only decoration. Crossing the arms braces the head against sideways pressure, which is the direction a ring actually gets knocked when you catch it on a door handle or a pocket. It also lets the whole setting sit lower, because the crossing point takes the height that a tall four post basket would otherwise need.
This is one of the lowest sitting rings we make. The stone sits close to the finger, so it catches far less on knitwear, gloves and bag straps than a raised setting does, and a wedding band sits close against it without a gap.
The honest trade off is that a low setting lets less light in from underneath than a tall open gallery does, so the stone reads slightly less bright indoors than it would on a high set ring. If maximum sparkle matters more to you than catch free wear, our raised gallery designs will suit you better.
Around the base of the head sits a ring of small round moissanite. From directly above you see a plain solitaire with nothing around the stone. From the side, and every time you look down at your own hand at an angle, the halo is there.
It also feeds a little light back up into the pavilion of the pear, which helps offset the low setting. That is part of why the two features are paired on this design rather than being separate options.
Our Hidden Halo Slim Solitaire has a much narrower band and conventional straight six claws, and it sits higher. Delicate rather than solid.
Our Scalloped Pave Hidden Halo ring has a fine pave line running most of the way round the shank, so there is sparkle on the band as well as under the head.
This ring is the plain banded one. Thicker, rounder, lower, no stones anywhere on the shank, and the only one of the three with the crossover gallery. Choose it if you want something substantial and snag free that still has a detail hidden underneath. Compare the side photographs of all three, because from above they look far more alike than they are.
The centre is a pear cut moissanite, also called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire rather than the broad mirror flashes of a step cut. The point runs up the finger and elongates the hand.
Both the centre and the hidden halo stones are Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting so the halo does not read warmer or greyer than the stone above it. Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to being worn every day.
Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. Because the band is on the thicker side, this design carries the larger centre sizes particularly well without looking unbalanced.
A smooth rounded shank of even width, comfortable against the finger and easy to live with. There is no engraving, no milgrain and no pave, which is what makes it a good ring for someone who works with their hands. It also means it can be resized readily, which a stone set shank cannot.
Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, which suits the design because the wide plain band gives the metal itself something to say. 10K is the hardest gold and the most scratch resistant, which pairs well with the practical character of this ring. 14K is the everyday balance. 18K has the richest colour and is the softest. Silver is the most affordable route in and gives a bright white finish. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.
Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, set, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations.
Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Work the brush up into the crossover underneath the head, because that is where a low set ring collects soap and skin oil and it is also where the hidden halo lives. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.
Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, better than on most engagement rings. The low profile and plain shank mean a flat band sits close along its whole length.
Can it be resized? Yes, comfortably. There are no stones in the shank.
Is it really snag free? Less snag prone, not snag proof. Any ring with a raised stone can catch. This one catches much less than most.
Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw and the crossover gallery adds support beneath it.
Can I have it without the hidden halo? Not on this design, the halo is set into the head. Our plain slim solitaire is the version without any hidden stones.
