Pear Cut Moissanite Channel Set Baguette Engagement Ring in Sterling Silver, 10K, 14K and 18K Gold

A pear cut moissanite in six claws above a flat faced band inset with a channel of small baguette cut moissanite. The baguettes sit shoulder to shoulder in a groove between two plain metal rails, their surfaces level with the top of the band, so the line of stones is completely flush and there is not a single prong or bead anywhere along it.

Why baguettes look different from pave

Almost every accented ring uses round brilliant stones. A round brilliant is faceted to scatter light into many small flashes, which is why a pave band twinkles.

A baguette is a step cut. Its facets are long straight planes arranged in parallel steps, like a set of mirrors, so instead of twinkling it throws broad flashes of white light that shift as a block when you move your hand. It is a quieter, more architectural kind of brightness.

Setting them in a channel completes the effect. Because there is no metal between the stones and none over them, the row reads as one continuous ribbon of light rather than as a series of separate points. That is why this design looks far more Art Deco than any of our pave rings, even though it is doing the same job.

How this compares with our other accented pear rings

Our Scalloped Pave Hidden Halo ring and our Shared Prong Pave ring both use round accents and both have raised metal along the band edge, whether beads or prongs. They sparkle in the conventional way.

This ring is the only one in the pear collection with step cut accents and the only one with a fully flush channel. If you dislike the busy look of pave, or if you want a ring that reads as clean geometry rather than as scattered sparkle, this is the one to compare against the others.

It is also the most practical of the three. A channel has no beads or prongs to catch, so nothing snags on knitwear along the band.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. Pear is a brilliant cut, so the centre stone does fire in the conventional way. That contrast is deliberate: a brilliant centre above a step cut band, so the two behave differently as your hand moves rather than competing.

The accents are baguette cut moissanite, matched to the centre before setting. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity. Matching matters especially on baguettes, because a step cut shows body colour more readily than a brilliant does, so any variation would be visible along the row.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why the pear fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it stands up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. The baguette channel is scaled to the centre so the band stays in proportion at every size.

The band

A flat faced band with square edges, which is the profile a channel setting needs. The two plain rails either side of the stones are polished, so they read as bright lines framing the row. The channel runs across the shoulders and stops before the palm, leaving the lower part of the shank plain.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in white gold, where the flat rails and the flush stones read as one continuous bright band. In yellow gold the rails frame the stones in warm metal, which is a more visibly Art Deco effect. Silver is the most affordable way to own it. 10K is the hardest gold and the most scratch resistant, which suits a flat faced band that shows scratches more readily than a rounded one. 14K is the everyday balance. 18K is the richest in colour and softest. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. A channel is easier to keep clean than pave on top, but dirt does collect at the two ends where the channel opens, so brush there. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, very well. The band has straight square edges and no raised beads, so a flat band sits perfectly level against it. This is one of the easiest designs in our collection to stack.

Can it be resized? Within a limited range. A channel cannot be stretched much without opening the gap between the stones, so please try to order the right size and write to us if you are unsure.

Do baguettes sparkle less than round stones? They sparkle differently. Fewer, broader flashes rather than many small ones. Some people prefer it and some do not, so look at the photographs and decide honestly rather than assuming brighter is better.

Are channel set stones secure? Yes, very. The metal walls grip the whole length of each stone, which is more contact than a prong gives. It is one of the most robust settings for a band.

Is the point of the pear protected? Yes, it has its own claw.
