A pear cut moissanite held in a smooth polished bezel, with a halo of small pave set accents running all the way round the outside of that bezel, on a plain tapered band that splits below the head.

We make it to order in our workshop in Surat, India. Family run, every ring finished and checked by hand.

Two settings in one ring

Almost every halo ring holds its centre stone in claws. This one holds it in a bezel and then puts the halo outside that.

The result is a clean unbroken metal outline drawn around the pear, with a ring of light around the outside of it. You get the teardrop shape stated twice, once in polished metal and once in stone, which is a very different thing from claws poking over the edge of a stone with pave beneath them.

It is also the most protective halo we make. The bezel armours the girdle and the point of the pear completely, and the halo then sits outside that as a second layer, so the centre stone is about as shielded as a stone can be while still being visible.

What the bezel does to the halo effect

Worth being straightforward about, because it is the one thing that surprises people.

On a claw set halo the small stones sit close against the centre, so the eye reads centre and halo as one continuous mass and the ring looks larger than the centre stone alone. Here the bezel rim sits between them, a visible band of metal, so the centre and the halo stay legible as two separate things.

That makes the ring look more designed and less like an attempt to make a stone look bigger. If your priority is maximum apparent size, a claw set halo does that better. If you want the outline of the pear drawn cleanly and the sparkle placed around it rather than crowding it, this is the design.

How this compares with our other pear rings

Our Low Smooth Bezel ring has the same clean bezel and no halo at all, the most minimal ring we make.

Our Milgrain Bezel ring edges the bezel with beading instead of a halo.

Our Sunburst Claw Set Halo ring uses large individually claw set stones around a claw set centre, which is the vintage cluster look.

This one is the only bezel with a pave halo, and it is the only ring where the centre stone is completely enclosed and still surrounded by light.

The stones

The centre is a pear cut moissanite, sometimes called a teardrop. It is a brilliant cut, so it returns light as sharp flashes of white and coloured fire, and its point elongates the finger.

The halo accents are small round moissanite, pave set. Every stone in the ring is Colorless in body colour and VVS in clarity, matched before setting.

Moissanite has a higher refractive index than diamond, which is why it fires so hard, and at 9.25 on the Mohs scale it holds up to daily wear.

Choose the centre from 2 carat up to 5 carat. The bezel and halo are made around your chosen stone, so the proportions hold at every size.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Shown in yellow gold, which is the strongest version because the warm bezel draws the teardrop outline as a clear line between the white centre and the white halo, and the whole design depends on that line being visible. In white gold or silver the bezel recedes and the ring reads closer to a conventional halo, which loses the point of the design. Rose gold gives a soft warm outline. 10K is the hardest gold, 14K the everyday balance, 18K the richest colour. White gold is rhodium plated and needs replating every one to two years.

Made to order

Nothing is taken off a shelf. We cast, fit the bezel precisely to your chosen stone, set it, pave set the halo around it, file and polish each ring for your chosen metal, centre size and finger size after your order arrives, which is how we can offer twenty one ring sizes and forty combinations. A bezel must be made to the individual stone rather than to a standard size, and a halo that follows a pear outline has to be laid out by hand, which is why this ring takes longer than a round halo of the same diameter.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, working around the outside of the bezel where the halo meets it, since that seam is where residue collects. The bezel itself has nothing to clog. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming pools, and keep it away from bleach.

Questions we are asked

Will a wedding band sit flush? Not tight against the head, because the halo is wider than the shank. It sits closer than most halo rings would, because the whole setting is low, but a slightly contoured band gives the best fit.

Can it be resized? Yes, easily. The shank is plain with no stones in it.

Does the bezel make the centre look smaller? The rim covers the outermost edge of the stone, yes. The halo more than makes up for it in overall size, but if you want the centre itself to look as large as possible, a claw setting shows more of the stone.

Is the point of the pear protected? Better than in almost any other setting. The bezel wraps right round it and the halo sits outside that.

Do the halo stones fall out? Properly set pave does not. Because they sit against a solid bezel wall on the inner side, they are better supported here than in an open halo.
