Frequently asked questions

Is the pear point fragile?
The point is the thinnest part of any pear and it is the part most likely to chip if the ring is knocked hard. That is why we set it under a V prong, which caps the tip in metal rather than leaving it exposed. With a V prong and normal care a pear wears as well as any other cut.

Which way should the point face?
Most people wear a pear with the point toward the fingertip, which lengthens the finger visually. Point down is also worn and is entirely a matter of taste. We build it either way at no extra cost.

Why white gold for a pear?
A pear has a large open table and a tapering point, so any colour in the metal reflects into the stone more than it would with a compact cut. White gold keeps a colourless stone looking colourless, which is why it is the most requested metal for pears.

What is the bow tie in a pear?
A faint dark band across the widest part of the stone. We select pears with excellent cut and symmetry specifically to keep it minimal.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
