A cleaner pear

Our other pear halo design wraps the stone in a visible halo that adds apparent size. This one does the opposite from above: it keeps the teardrop outline sharp and moves the halo underneath, where it faces outward from the collar. You see a pear solitaire when you look down at your hand and a band of sparkle when you glance across it.

The pave shoulders carry that sparkle into the band. Together the two details give the ring more light than a plain solitaire without softening the silhouette that makes a pear recognisable.

Protecting the point

The tip of a pear is its most fragile edge. It sits in a V shaped claw that wraps the point from both sides and covers the very end. The hidden halo collar beneath adds support under the whole stone.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. White metal makes the hidden halo and pave read as one line of light, while yellow and rose gold add warmth around each small stone. 10K is the hardest alloy, 14K is the everyday balance, and 18K is the richest colour but the softest metal. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The collar follows the teardrop outline of your stone, the hidden halo is set first, the pear is seated, and the pave is raised by hand along both shoulders. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Brush around the collar from underneath and along both shoulders. Rinse and dry with a soft cloth, and take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. The accents are matched to the same grade.

How is this different from a regular pear halo? A regular halo surrounds the stone and makes it look bigger from above. Here the halo sits underneath, so the pear keeps its own outline.

Which way does the point face? Usually toward the fingernail, which lengthens the finger. We will set it the other way on request.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Close to it. A curved band follows the point neatly.

Can it be resized? Yes. The lower shank is plain.
