Two rings making one shape

The cluster comes to a point at the top of the engagement ring. The chevron band comes to a point at the bottom. Worn together they mirror each other and the whole thing reads as one elongated diamond outline rather than as two rings sharing a finger. This is the reason to buy them as a set rather than pairing a cluster ring with a straight band later.

The cluster

Marquise stones sit at the outer edges, pointing away from the centre, with round diamonds filling the spaces between them and the pear. Because the accents are different shapes and sizes, the cluster looks gathered rather than machined, and the pear stays clearly the largest thing in it.

The point is protected

The tip of a pear is the thinnest part of the stone. It sits inside a v claw that wraps around both edges of the point rather than pressing down on it, and it is further sheltered by the accents set around it.

Why colour matching matters here

There are a lot of small stones in direct contact with the centre diamond. If they were even slightly warmer in colour the pear would read grey beside them, and the effect compounds with the number of stones. Every accent on both rings is matched to the same E colour and VVS2 clarity as the centre.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Both rings are made in the same metal, which matters on a nested set: two slightly different golds sitting against each other is very obvious. Yellow gold is photographed here. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the set at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown.

About the bow tie

Every pear has the potential for a bow tie, a dark band across the middle caused by the proportions of the cut rather than by colour or clarity. No certificate grades it. We check each pear by eye and reject the ones that show it.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The chevron band is shaped against your finished engagement ring so the two points meet cleanly, and every accent is set by hand under a microscope. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush. Work the brush into the spaces between the cluster stones and along the V where the two rings meet, which is the spot that never rinses properly on its own.

Does the price include both rings? Yes. Every price on this page is for the engagement ring and the chevron wedding band together.

What colour and clarity is the diamond? Every centre stone is E colour and VVS2 clarity, on every metal and every carat weight. All accents are matched to the same grade.

Does the carat weight include the accents? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre pear. The cluster and the band stones are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Can I wear the engagement ring on its own? Yes. The cluster is a complete design by itself, and the chevron band also works alone or stacked on the other hand.

Can it be resized? Both rings take about one size either way at most. Because the two points have to stay aligned, we would rather build to your size than alter them later.
