Two details set this three stone apart. The first is the prong arrangement on the centre stone. Instead of four prongs at the corners, six prongs sit at the compass points, one at the top of the oval, one at the bottom and two on each side. The top and bottom prongs are slim tapered points that follow the line of the stone, so the outline of the oval stays clean and the setting looks less like a cage.

The second is the direction of the pear side stones. Their points face outward, away from the centre, toward the shoulders of the band. That sends the eye along the finger and gives the ring a soft arrow shape rather than the mirrored teardrops you see when pears face inward.

How it compares

Our other pear three stone rings use four prongs on the centre and set the pears closer in. Here the six compass prongs hold a large oval more securely at the top and bottom, where an oval is most vulnerable, and the outward facing pears make the ring look longer on the finger.

Wearing and stacking

The pears sit low against the band so a straight wedding band meets the shank without a gap at the sides. The slim 1.7 mm shank also means a stacking band does not add much bulk.

Care

Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, working around the six prongs and the points of the pears. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth. Remove the ring before swimming or heavy work.

Questions buyers ask

Why six prongs instead of four
An oval is most likely to chip at its narrow ends. A prong at the top and bottom protects those points, and the four side prongs keep the stone level. It is the safer choice for larger centre stones.

Do the prongs cover much of the stone
No. They are tapered to fine points and follow the outline of the oval, so they read as thin lines rather than blocks of metal.

How large are the pear side stones
Scaled to the centre, generally around one fifth to one quarter of the centre weight each.

Is moissanite hard enough for daily wear
Yes. Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond among stones used in jewellery.
