This ring is built in two metals on purpose. The head, the prongs and the hidden halo beneath the stone are all made in white metal, while the band is made in the colour you choose. Setting a colorless stone in white prongs is an old jeweller trick: because the metal touching the stone is the same colour as the stone, the eye reads them as one shape and the oval looks larger and cleaner than it would in a warm setting. Meanwhile the warm band keeps the colour and character on your finger. You get the size illusion of white gold and the warmth of yellow or rose at the same time. Design and craftsmanship

Two metals joined in one ring have to be soldered cleanly or the seam shows as a grey line under polish. We join the white head to the coloured shank at the point where the gallery meets the shoulders, then finish the joint by hand so the transition reads as a deliberate design line rather than a repair. The hidden halo sits inside the white basket, which means the small stones are surrounded by metal that matches them and effectively disappears. The band is a plain rounded profile of about 1.7 mm. Every piece is hand set and finished by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire, which is the quality most buyers notice first. White prongs suit moissanite particularly well because nothing warm reflects back into the stone. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Metal options

The head is always made in white metal so the centre stone reads as large and bright as possible. The band is made in whichever of our ten metals you select: 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, gives the strongest two tone contrast. Rose gold gives a softer version of the same idea. If you choose a white gold band the ring becomes a single tone design, which we are happy to make. For everyday wear 14K is harder and more scratch resistant than 18K.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. The plain shank resizes easily later, though ordering the correct size at the outset is always better. Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and the hidden halo stones are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

Why is the head a different metal from the band?
Because a colorless stone looks bigger and whiter in white prongs. Warm metal reflects a faint yellow tint into the edges of the stone, while white metal does not. Mixing the two lets you keep a warm band without that trade off.

Does the join between the two metals weaken the ring?
No. The joint sits at the shoulders where the metal is thickest, and it is soldered with a matching alloy and finished by hand. It is as strong as the rest of the shank.

Will the two metals wear differently?
White gold is rhodium plated and that plating gradually thins on any white gold ring, which is normal and easily refreshed. The coloured band needs nothing. We re plate the head free of charge whenever you send the ring in for its service.

Can I have it all in one metal instead?
Yes. Select a white gold band for a fully white ring, or contact us if you want the head made in the same warm metal as the band.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself rather than a coating.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, paying attention to the hidden halo under the head. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.

How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days because two metals have to be worked and joined, plus shipping time.
