Seen from above this is a clean four prong oval solitaire on a plain polished band. Tip it to the side and a full row of pave moissanite appears, set into the underside of the head where nobody expects it. That hidden halo does two things: it throws light back up through the oval from below, and it turns the profile view into the most interesting angle of the ring. The gallery wire crosses under the basket to brace the centre stone, and the whole head sits low so the ring wears flat and does not catch. Design and craftsmanship

The hidden halo is a continuous line of small round moissanite bead set into the outer wall of the basket, following the oval outline the whole way round including under the prongs. Because the halo sits below the girdle it never competes with the centre stone from the top view, but it fills the space between the stone and the finger with light. The shank is a plain rounded band of about 1.8 mm that tapers very slightly toward the head, and the two shoulders cross beneath the basket rather than meeting it square, which adds strength without adding bulk. Every piece is hand set and finished by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire, which is the quality most buyers notice first. A moissanite of the same face up size costs a fraction of a mined diamond, which is why many couples choose a larger centre stone here than they could otherwise consider. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, gives the strongest contrast between the warm metal and the colorless stones and makes the hidden halo read clearly in profile. White gold makes the halo almost disappear into the metal for a quieter effect. Rose gold sits between the two. For everyday wear 14K is harder and more scratch resistant than 18K, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

The plain shank resizes easily, but ordering the correct size from the start is always best.

Frequently asked questions

What is a hidden halo?
A hidden halo is a ring of small stones set into the side of the setting underneath the centre stone, facing outward rather than upward. You cannot see it looking straight down at the ring, only from the side, which is why it is described as hidden.

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone and the halo stones are all lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

Does a hidden halo make the centre stone look bigger?
Slightly, and mostly in profile. Its bigger effect is on brightness: the extra stones bounce light up into the pavilion of the oval, so the centre stone reads livelier than it would on a plain basket.

Is the low profile head comfortable for daily wear?
Yes. This is one of the easier settings to live with because the head sits close to the finger, so it slides under gloves and cuffs and is far less likely to snag than a tall cathedral setting.

Will a wedding band sit flush?
Yes. The shank is plain and straight and the head is low, so a straight wedding band sits flat against it. We can make a matching band in the same metal.

Does moissanite scratch or cloud over time?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance is a property of the material rather than a coating, so it cannot wear off.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Pay attention to the underside of the head, because the hidden halo is exactly where lotion and soap residue collect. Avoid bleach and abrasive cleaners.

How long does it take to make?
