Step 1
Design & Selection
We finalise your design and hand-pick the certified center stone.
Save 20%Three quarters of this band is set with round moissanite, and the pave is French cut, which means each stone sits in a small V shaped cutout rather than a flat channel. Light enters from underneath as well as from above, so the shoulders keep sparkling even when your hand is still. Under the oval there is a hidden halo, and a gallery wire runs beneath the centre stone to support it. The head sits low, which is the reason this ring wears comfortably and does not catch on clothing. Made to order in Surat, India, in ten metals and four centre stone sizes.
French pave takes longer to cut than standard pave. The setter removes a V of metal below each stone so the girdle is exposed from the side, which lets light in from three directions instead of one. It also means less metal shows between the stones, so the row reads as a continuous line of light rather than a series of beads. Coverage runs three quarters of the way around, which is a deliberate choice: it gives the look of an eternity band from every angle you actually see while leaving the base plain so the ring can be resized later. The band measures about 2 mm and is thick through the depth, which is what keeps a stone set shank strong. The hidden halo is set into the north and south walls of the basket as well as the sides, so it sparkles from every direction and not only in profile.
Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire. On a ring with this many small stones that difference is obvious, because small stones show fire more readily than large ones. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.
Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. White gold, as photographed, lets the pave and the hidden halo read as pure light with no colour behind them. Yellow and rose gold create a warm frame around the colorless stones and make the oval stand out more. For a pave band worn every day, 14K is the practical choice because it is harder than 18K and holds small stones more securely over the years, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.
Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. We make US sizes 3 through 13, including half sizes. Because the pave stops at three quarter coverage, the plain base can be resized by a jeweller later without disturbing any stones. If you are unsure of your size, measure the inside diameter of a ring you already wear or ask us for a free size guide.
We can extend the pave to full eternity coverage, remove the hidden halo, widen or narrow the band, set the centre with a lab grown diamond or a colored moissanite, or make a matching French pave wedding band. For any other request please contact us at https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and we will quote it before you order.
Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. The centre stone, the hidden halo and the pave are all lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.
What is French pave and how is it different from regular pave?
In French pave the setter cuts a small V shaped opening beneath each stone. Less metal covers the stone from the side and light enters from below, so the row looks brighter and more continuous than standard bead set pave.
What does three quarter coverage mean?
The pave runs about three quarters of the way around the band and stops before the base. You see stones from every normal viewing angle, but the underside stays plain so the ring can be resized.
What is a hidden halo?
A ring of small stones set into the wall of the basket, just below the centre stone. You cannot see it from directly above, so from the top the ring still reads as a solitaire, but from the side and on the hand it adds a band of light beneath the oval.
What is the gallery wire for?
It is a bar of metal that runs under the centre stone between the prongs. It braces the head so the prongs cannot spread, which matters on a low profile setting where the stone sits close to the finger.
Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Almost. The pave shoulders are straight, so a straight band sits close, though a very slight gap can appear where the setting begins. If you want a perfect fit we can make a contoured band shaped to this ring.
Do pave stones fall out?
Rarely when set properly, and we set every stone by hand and check each bead under magnification. We also offer a free annual check where we tighten anything that has loosened with wear.
How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush. Pay attention to the underside of the pave, since the open French cutouts collect lotion and soap. Rinse well and dry with a lint free cloth.
How long does it take to make?
Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days, plus shipping time. Every ring is cut and set only after it is ordered.
