An oval cut moissanite is held in four slender claw prongs and flanked on each shoulder by a small cluster of marquise and round brilliant accents. The clusters sit tight against the centre stone and then stop, so the band itself stays completely plain and polished. The effect is a solitaire that has been given a little extra light exactly where the eye already goes, without turning into a busy ring. Design and craftsmanship

Each shoulder carries one marquise laid lengthways along the band with two or three small rounds tucked between it and the centre stone. Because the accents are graduated in size they lead the eye inward toward the oval rather than competing with it. The band is a plain round wire of about 1.7 mm, high polished and unbroken from the shoulders to the base, which keeps the ring comfortable and easy to pair with a wedding band. The basket under the oval is left open so light can enter from below. Every piece is hand set and finished by our bench in Surat.

How moissanite compares to a diamond

Moissanite is silicon carbide, not carbon, so it is a different material from a diamond rather than a lower grade of one. It measures 9.25 on the Mohs scale against a diamond at 10, which makes it hard wearing and well suited to daily use. Its refractive index is higher than a diamond, so it returns more colored fire, which is the quality most buyers notice first. A moissanite of the same face up size costs a fraction of a mined diamond, which is why many couples choose a larger centre stone here than they could otherwise consider. This ring is sold as moissanite and is never described as a diamond.

Yellow gold gives the warm, classic look shown in the photographs and makes a colorless stone read even brighter by contrast. White gold gives a cooler, more contemporary result and lets the accents blend into the metal. Rose gold sits between the two. For everyday wear 14K is harder and more scratch resistant than 18K, and 925 sterling silver is the most affordable way to try the design.

This slim plain shank resizes easily, but ordering the correct size from the start is always best.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a moissanite ring or a diamond ring?
It is a moissanite engagement ring. Both the centre stone and the accents are lab created moissanite, and the ring is sold as moissanite. We never describe it as a diamond.

What is a cluster accent setting?
It is a solitaire in which a small group of stones is set on each shoulder immediately beside the centre stone, instead of a continuous row of pave running down the band. It adds sparkle around the head while leaving most of the band plain.

How large does a 2 carat oval look?
An oval spreads more than a round stone of the same weight, so a 2 carat oval reads close to a 2.5 carat round when viewed face up. The 3, 4 and 5 carat options step up clearly from there and suit longer fingers particularly well.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it?
Yes. Because the shoulders are plain and the accents sit high near the head, a straight wedding band sits flat against this ring with no gap. We can make a matching band in the same metal.

Does moissanite scratch or lose its sparkle?
No. At 9.25 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching from ordinary contact, and its brilliance comes from the material itself rather than any coating, so it cannot wear off. Regular cleaning keeps it bright.

How do I clean it?
Warm water, mild soap and a soft brush, paying particular attention to the underside of the oval and the gaps between the cluster stones where lotion collects. Avoid bleach and abrasive cleaners.

Is the slim band strong enough for daily wear?
Yes in 10K, 14K and 18K gold. In 925 sterling silver a slim shank is softer and will show wear sooner, so choose gold if the ring will be worn every day for many years.
