Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Three Stone Ring with Large Half Moon Sides on a Plain Band

An oval cut lab grown diamond in four claws with a large half moon diamond on each side, its straight edge laid against the centre stone and its curved back held by claws following the arc, on a plain tapered band with nothing set into it.

A half moon is cut as a D: one straight edge and one curved. Placing the straight edge against the girdle of the oval closes the gap between the stones completely, so the three sit as a continuous mass of diamond with no metal showing between them, and the two outer curves then carry the eye smoothly back down to the shank. That is the particular virtue of the shape. Pears and marquise end in points that interrupt the outline; trapezoids and baguettes end in corners; a half moon simply curves away, which is why the head reads as one wide rounded form rather than as three separate stones sitting in a row. Cut at this size the half moons take up a great deal of the finger, so everything else has been stripped back to let them. The claws are placed along the curved outer edge where they follow the arc rather than crossing it, the band tapers slightly towards the head and is otherwise entirely plain, and there is no pavé, halo or ornament anywhere on the ring.

A plain shank tapering slightly towards the head, fully polished and completely unset, with no pavé, twist, engraving or milgrain. The interior is smooth and comfort rounded.

Metal options

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is shown in the photographs, which lets the three stones merge into one continuous form. Yellow and rose gold outline each stone more distinctly.

Ring size

The ring is made to your finger size. Select your size at checkout. If you are unsure, we will send you a printable size guide before we begin work.

Custom orders

We can change the carat weight, use smaller half moons, swap them for trapezoids or pears, add pavé to the shoulders, add a hidden halo, or make a contour wedding band shaped to clear the wide head. Write to us through https://mapplegems.com/pages/contact and our workshop will prepare a quotation and a rendering before any metal is cut.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What is a half moon cut
A stone cut as a D, with one straight edge and one curved edge. The straight edge sits against the centre stone and the curve faces outward.

Why do half moons suit a three stone ring
The straight edge closes the gap against the centre stone completely, and the outer curve carries the eye back down to the band without a point or a corner interrupting the outline.

How is this different from your other oval half moon ring
The other sets its half moons above a twisted pavé band. This one uses larger half moons on a completely plain tapered shank, so nothing competes with the three stones.

Why are the claws on the curved edge only
Because the straight edge is against the centre stone with no room for metal. Claws following the outer arc hold the stone without crossing its face.

Are half moons hard to source
They are always cut to order, and the pair must mirror one another exactly in depth and arc or the head looks lopsided. That is why they appear less often than pears or baguettes.

Will a wedding band sit flush against it
Not a straight band, because the head is wide and the half moons overhang the shoulders. A contour band shaped to clear them sits properly, and we can make one to match.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, comfortably. The shank is plain and unset.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

Half moons this large have to be cut to order as a matched pair, and with no metal between them and the centre stone any difference in colour is immediately visible. Lab grown material makes that matching reliable and affordable, so an E colour VVS2 oval of two to five carats sits between two properly matched half moons, in fully hallmarked metal, with a traceable origin and no mining.
