An oval cut lab grown diamond in four claws set low against a broad flat band with squared edges, the head sitting almost flush with the top surface of the metal and no gallery visible from above.

Almost every engagement ring in this range narrows the shank to make the stone look larger. This one does the opposite on purpose. The band is broad and flat topped with crisp square edges rather than rounded ones, and the head is set low so the oval appears to rest directly on that flat plane rather than being lifted above it on a basket. The effect is architectural instead of delicate. Where a fine band frames a diamond, a wide flat band presents it, the way a stone is presented on a plinth, and the ring reads as a single solid object rather than as a setting balanced on a wire. It is the treatment that suits a modern hand and a plain wardrobe, and it is also the most robust ring we make, because there is no thin section anywhere in it. The edges are worked square and then very slightly softened so they catch a hard line of light along both sides of the finger, which is what keeps a wide band from looking heavy. The inner face is domed for comfort despite the flat outer surface, so the ring passes the knuckle easily. Nothing is set anywhere except the centre stone.

The shank is broad and flat topped with squared and lightly softened edges, holding its width all the way round the finger. The inner face is domed for comfort so the ring passes the knuckle easily despite the flat outer surface.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Does a wide band make the diamond look smaller
Compared with a fine shank, yes, slightly. What you get in exchange is an architectural ring that reads as one solid object rather than a stone balanced on a wire, and a setting that is far more robust.

Why is the head set so low
So the oval appears to rest on the flat plane of the band rather than float above it. A raised basket would break the continuity that the whole design depends on.

Is a wide band comfortable
Yes, because the inner face is domed even though the outside is flat. That is what stops the square edges pressing into the finger.

Should I size up
Usually. Wide bands read tighter than narrow ones at the same nominal size. Tell us the width you want and we will advise before cutting.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, though a wide band takes more work than a narrow one. We do it free of charge in the first year.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order and the square edges are worked and softened by hand, so allow sixteen to twenty working days before dispatch.
