An oval cut lab grown diamond in four claws that rise from a shaped tulip basket, on a slim polished band with no stones anywhere on the shank.

All the work on this ring is in the part almost nobody photographs, which is the basket beneath the stone. Instead of a plain collar of metal, the underside of the head is shaped into four petals that swell outward below the girdle and then draw back in as they meet the shank, so that seen from the side the setting has the profile of a closed tulip. The petals are pierced between each claw, which is what stops the shape reading as heavy. It is a nineteenth century form and it survives because it solves a real problem. A large oval needs a deep basket to hold its pavilion, and a deep basket made as a straight cylinder looks like a bucket from the side. Curving the walls outward and then inward gives the same depth with a silhouette that flatters the stone, and the piercing between the petals lets light into the pavilion from below rather than trapping it against a solid wall. Above the basket the four claws are drawn fine and folded over the girdle so the outline of the oval is barely interrupted. The shank is left completely plain, slim, round in section and polished bright, because a decorated basket and a decorated band would be arguing with each other.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

What is a tulip basket
The metal cage beneath the stone is shaped into four curved petals that swell outward below the girdle and taper back in toward the shank, giving the profile of a closed tulip rather than a straight walled cylinder.

Does it do anything besides look better
Yes. The curve gives the depth a large oval needs without visual bulk, and the piercing between the petals lets light reach the pavilion from underneath.

Will I actually see it once the ring is on
From above, no. From the side and whenever the hand turns, yes, and it is the part most owners end up pointing out to people.

Why is the shank left completely plain
Because the basket is the ornament. Adding pave or engraving to the band would compete with it and the shape would be lost.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, easily and by several sizes, because there is nothing set into the shank.

The basket is shaped and pierced by hand, so allow sixteen to twenty working days before dispatch.
