This is the solitaire reduced to its essentials. An elongated oval lab grown diamond sits in four slender claws above an open basket, carried on a slim round wire band that keeps every line of metal subordinate to the stone. Seen from the front the ring reads as a diamond floating on a thread of gold. Seen from the side it reveals a small piece of engineering that most wearers never notice.

That piece is the basket itself. Rather than closing the underside of the setting with a solid plate, the goldsmith builds a shallow cradle from two arched rails joined by a cross bar, leaving the pavilion of the oval open to the air. This matters for a stone this size. Light entering the crown reflects off the pavilion facets and returns to the eye, and any metal pressed against the back of the diamond absorbs part of that return. An open basket lets the pavilion breathe, and it also lets a soft cloth reach the underside of the stone so that the dust and lotion that dull a diamond can actually be removed. A closed setting traps that residue where no cloth can follow.

Band details

The shank is a slim round wire of even thickness that meets the basket without a gallery rail, so the profile of the ring stays low and the diamond appears to rest directly on the finger. A round cross section is the most comfortable shank shape to wear for long hours because there is no flat edge to press against the neighbouring fingers, and it also sits flush against a wedding band added later.

Metal options

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is finished with rhodium for a bright neutral surface, yellow gold gives the warm contrast shown in the photographs, and rose gold takes its colour from a copper alloy that also makes it the hardest of the three golds.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It is carbon crystallised in the same cubic structure as a mined diamond, with the same hardness, the same refractive index and the same optical behaviour. Laboratories grade it on the same scales.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Will an open basket let the diamond fall out
No. The claws hold the stone, not the basket. The basket carries the claws and sets the height, and the cross bar construction is stronger for its weight than a solid plate because the load is spread along the arches.

Is a slim band strong enough for a large stone
Yes, when it is made correctly. We thicken the shank slightly where it meets the basket so the join carries the load, and we recommend 14K or 18K gold rather than sterling silver for the four and five carat weights.

Which carat weight looks best in an oval
An oval spreads more surface area across the finger than a round of the same weight, so a two carat oval already covers a good deal of the finger. Three and four carat versions become statement rings.

Can I add a wedding band later
Yes. A slim round shank pairs cleanly with a straight band, and because the basket sits low there is no gap to bridge.

How long does the ring take to make
