An oval cut lab grown diamond in four plain claws with nothing at all beneath the girdle, on a broad band set with large round brilliants in fishtail settings that run three quarters of the way round and stop clean.

Two decisions pull in opposite directions here and that is what makes the ring work. The band is generous: wide, and filled with round brilliants big enough to be read individually, each held in a fishtail setting where the metal between neighbours is cut away into a sharp spur so both edges of the shank take on a zigzag. It is a substantial, glittering shoulder that would carry a ring on its own. The head does the opposite. There is no halo, hidden or visible, no collar, and no decoration in the gallery at all, just four plain claws and open space under the stone. Put a hidden halo on a shank this heavily set and the two compete; the small stones under the girdle get lost against the large ones beside them, and the centre stone ends up sitting in the middle of an undifferentiated field of sparkle. Leaving the head completely bare gives the oval a clean boundary and lets it read as a distinctly separate object above a busy band. The pavé stops three quarters of the way round, so the palm stays plain and the ring can be sized.

Band details

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Why is there no hidden halo
Because the band is already heavily set with large stones. Small stones under the girdle would be lost against them, and the centre stone would sit in an undifferentiated field of sparkle instead of reading as its own object.

How is this different from your other fishtail ring
The other pairs fishtail setting with a hidden halo and runs the stones the complete way round as an eternity. This one has a completely bare head and stops at three quarter coverage.

What is fishtail setting
The metal between neighbouring stones is cut away at an angle from both sides, leaving a sharp tapering spur. It exposes more of each stone and gives the band edges a zigzag.

Why stop the pave at three quarters
It keeps stones off the part of the band that takes the most wear and leaves a plain section across the palm, which is where a sizing cut is made.

Does a wide paved band make the centre stone look smaller
It can, which is exactly why the head is left bare here. A clean boundary around the oval keeps it distinct from the band no matter how bright the shoulders are.

Can this ring be resized
Yes. The plain quarter across the palm is left specifically for that.
