Oval Cut Lab Grown Diamond Ring on a Scalloped Pave Band with Hidden Halo

An oval cut lab grown diamond in four claws over a concealed halo, on a shank set with large round brilliants held in deep scalloped cutouts so the diamonds sit proud of the metal on both sides.

The accents here are considerably larger than ordinary pave, and the setting method changes to suit them. Instead of small stones bead set into a flat channel, each round is dropped into a scallop cut right through the side wall of the shank and held by claws that grip only at the top edge. Look at the ring from the side and you can see daylight between the stones. That is the point. A large accent has a deep pavilion, and if you bury it in metal the bottom two thirds of the stone goes dark. Cutting the metal away in scallops lets light enter each accent from below and from the sides as well as the top, so the shank stones return almost as much brilliance per millimetre as the centre. It also makes the band look lighter than it is, because the eye reads the row of open scallops as a line of stones floating on a thin rail rather than as a solid gold bar with dots in it. Under the head a hidden halo of small rounds circles the basket, so the transition from shank to centre stone is continuous light with no dead metal anywhere in the ring.

Band details

The shank is scallop cut through both side walls so each accent is open beneath and can be seen from the side. The section running against the palm is left solid for strength and resizing, and the interior is comfort rounded.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is shown in the photographs, where the scallops disappear and the shank reads as a continuous line of stones.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What is scalloped pave
The side walls of the shank are cut away in a series of arcs so each accent stone is open underneath and visible from the side, rather than sunk into solid metal.

Why does that matter
Larger accents have deep pavilions. Buried in metal they go dark. Open scallops let light in from below and the stones stay as bright as the centre.

Will dirt collect in the open scallops
Less than in closed pave, because there is nowhere for it to sit. A soft brush and warm soapy water from underneath keeps it clear, and we clean the ring free of charge for life.

Are the accents secure with so little metal
Yes. Each stone is held by claws worked from the rail of the shank rather than by beads pushed over a flat seat, which is the stronger of the two methods at this size.

Can this ring be resized
Within about two sizes, using the solid section at the palm. Beyond that the scallop spacing changes and we prefer to remake the shank.

How long does the ring take to make
The scallops are cut and the stones set individually, so allow eighteen to twenty two working days before dispatch.
