An oval cut lab grown diamond in four claws over a concealed halo, carried on a shank that splits into two arms as it rises to the head, with fine pave running along the inner edge of the split.

The split cathedral is one of the few shank designs that adds decoration you can only see from certain angles, which is why it suits a ring somebody will look at every day for decades. Face up it reads as a plain band with a floating oval on it. From the side the shank divides about a third of the way up each shoulder, and the two arms sweep apart and rise as a cathedral arch to meet the basket. In the V shaped opening created by that split there is a row of tiny pave diamonds set along the inner edge, so light appears in the gap between the arms where you would expect shadow. Combined with the hidden halo circling the basket just below the girdle, the effect is that the underside of the ring is brighter than the top of the shank, and the oval appears to be held up on light rather than on metal. Practically, the split also does what a cathedral always does, which is raise the stone clear of the finger so the pavilion is not pressed against skin and the diamond stays bright in low light.

Band details

The shank is round in section and polished bright on its outer face. About a third of the way up each shoulder it divides into two arms that sweep apart and rise as a cathedral arch to the head, with pave set along the inner edge of the opening. The interior is comfort rounded.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Yellow gold is shown in the photographs, where the white pave inside the split contrasts most strongly with the warm arms.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What is a cathedral setting
The shoulders of the ring rise in arches to meet the setting rather than running straight into it, which lifts the stone above the finger. The name comes from the resemblance to the arches of a cathedral nave.

What is a split shank
The band divides into two arms as it approaches the head instead of continuing as a single bar. It widens the look of the ring at the top without adding bulk at the back.

Where is the pave
Along the inner edge of the split, facing into the V shaped opening, and around the hidden halo. None of it is on the outer face of the band, so the ring looks plain from directly above.

Does a raised setting catch on things more
Slightly, which is the trade off for the extra brightness a raised stone gives. The claws are tapered and burnished so nothing stands proud.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, at the plain back section, by two or three sizes. The split and the pave are unaffected.

How long does the ring take to make
The split, the arch and two runs of pave are all worked by hand, so allow eighteen to twenty two working days before dispatch.
