An oval cut lab grown diamond in four claws above a hidden halo, on a band set the complete way round with substantial round brilliants, the metal between each pair cut away into a sharp V so the shoulders read as a row of fishtails.

Fishtail is a setting style rather than a stone arrangement, and it is what gives this band its character. In ordinary bead pavé the metal between neighbouring stones is left as a flat bridge with small beads raised on it. In fishtail work the setter cuts that metal away from both sides at an angle, leaving a sharp pointed spur that rises between each pair of stones and tapers to a fine ridge. Two things happen as a result. The stones sit noticeably more open, because far less metal touches their girdles, so each one takes light from the side as well as from above. And the row acquires a strong zigzag rhythm along both edges of the band, which catches light on the metal itself and makes the shank look wider and brighter than the plain-edged equivalent. The stones used here are substantial rather than micro, so the effect is bold rather than delicate, and the run continues across the palm without stopping. Beneath the centre stone a hidden halo follows the full oval outline.

Band details

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is shown in the photographs. In yellow or rose gold the fishtail spurs read as bright warm points between the stones, which makes the zigzag much more visible.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

What is fishtail setting
The metal between neighbouring stones is cut away at an angle from both sides, leaving a sharp tapering spur that rises between each pair. It is also called V cut or French cut pavé.

Why choose fishtail over bead pave
Far less metal touches each girdle, so the stones sit more open and take light from the side as well as above, and the cut spurs give both edges of the band a zigzag that catches light on the metal itself.

How is this different from your other hidden halo eternity ring
The other uses the finest micropavé we can set on the narrowest shank, so the metal disappears. This one uses substantial stones in fishtail settings, so the metalwork is deliberately part of the effect.

Is fishtail setting more fragile
There is less metal at each junction, so it is more demanding work, but a properly cut spur is solid and well supported. We recommend 14K or 18K gold for it and we check every setting during servicing.

Can a full eternity ring be resized
Only within a very narrow margin, because a sizing cut would fall through set stones. This is why we make it to your measured size, and why we offer a three quarter coverage version instead.

What is a hidden halo
A ring of small diamonds around the outer wall of the collar beneath the centre stone. It is invisible from directly above and shows as a bright line when the hand turns.
