An oval cut lab grown diamond set into a solid disc of polished gold cut to the same outline as the stone, held by six pointed petal claws that rise directly out of the plate, on a shank that splits into two arms as it meets the setting.

This is a halo made of metal rather than of diamonds, and it behaves completely differently. A stone halo works by surrounding the centre with more small sparkles so the whole head reads as one large bright mass. A solid gold plate does the opposite. It surrounds the diamond with a broad area of pure warm reflection, so the stone sits in the middle of a bright field with a hard edge around it and reads as a single graphic object rather than as a cluster. The plate is cut to the same oval outline as the stone and extends several millimetres beyond it on every side, which makes the head look considerably larger on the finger than the carat weight alone would suggest, and does it without adding a single accent stone. The six claws are not the usual rounded tabs. They are cut as pointed petals that appear to grow out of the surface of the plate, tapering to a fine tip over the crown of the diamond, so from above the setting reads as a flower with the stone at its centre. Beneath, the shank divides into two arms that sweep apart and meet the underside of the plate at its widest point, which supports a broad head on a slim band without bulk.

Band details

The shank divides into two arms as it approaches the head and meets the underside of the plate at its widest point. It is round in section, polished bright and carries no stones. The interior is comfort rounded.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Yellow gold is shown in the photographs, and it is the metal this design was drawn for, because a broad plate of warm gold is what gives the diamond its field of reflected colour.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Is this a halo ring
Yes, but the halo is solid metal rather than a ring of small diamonds. It surrounds the stone with a broad field of polished reflection instead of surrounding it with more sparkle.

Does it make the diamond look bigger
Yes, considerably. The plate is cut to the same outline as the stone and extends several millimetres past it, so the head reads much larger on the finger than the carat weight alone would suggest.

How is that different from a diamond halo
A diamond halo blurs the outline of the centre stone into a general bright mass. A metal plate keeps a hard edge around the diamond, so the stone stays distinct and the whole head reads as one graphic shape.

What are petal claws
Claws cut as pointed leaf shapes that appear to grow out of the surface of the plate rather than being separate tabs, so the setting reads as a flower with the diamond at its centre.

Will the polished plate scratch
A broad polished surface does pick up fine marks with daily wear. We repolish free of charge for life, and a matte finish is available if you prefer marks not to show.

How long does the ring take to make
The plate is cut to the individual stone and the petal claws are shaped by hand, so allow eighteen to twenty two working days before dispatch.
