An oval cut lab grown diamond held in a continuous rim of metal that wraps the whole girdle, on a slim band that broadens slightly where it meets the setting and carries no stones anywhere.

A bezel is the oldest way to hold a stone and still the most secure, because there are no claws to snag, bend or wear thin. The rim is raised from the same piece of metal as the collar, rolled over the girdle of the oval all the way round and then burnished down until it grips. Getting a bezel right on an oval is considerably harder than on a round, because the rim has to keep an even width as it travels around a curve that changes radius continuously, tight at the two ends and shallow along the sides. A rim that stays a constant thickness looks heavy at the ends. Ours is cut slightly finer at the points of the oval and fractionally wider along the flanks, which is what makes the frame read as an even line rather than as a shape that bulges. The practical case for a bezel is strong. Nothing catches on knitwear, the girdle of the stone is protected on every side, and the ring sits low enough to wear under a glove. The aesthetic case is that a solid rim gives the diamond a hard outline, which makes an oval look larger and more graphic than the same stone in claws.

Frequently asked questions

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond
Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Is a bezel setting more secure than claws
Yes. The girdle is protected all the way round and there are no claws to bend or wear through. It is the setting we recommend to anyone who works with their hands, wears gloves or has small children.

Does a bezel make the diamond look smaller
No, and often the opposite. The rim covers a fraction of a millimetre of the girdle but adds a hard outline of metal around it, so the whole head reads larger than the stone alone. What a bezel does reduce is sparkle from the sides, because light enters mainly through the top.

Will the ring catch on clothing
No. There is nothing raised on a full bezel, which is the main reason people choose it.

Can a bezel be reset if I change stones later
Yes, but a bezel is cut to the exact outline of the stone it holds, so a new stone of different proportions needs a new rim. We do this in the workshop and only charge for the metal.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, easily and by several sizes, because the shank carries no stones and the bezel is unaffected.

How long does the ring take to make
The rim is cut and burnished to the individual stone, so allow sixteen to twenty working days before dispatch.
