An oval cut lab grown diamond held in four broad tapered claws over a hidden halo, on an ultra thin band. Two decisions make this ring different from a standard oval solitaire. The band is finer than usual, deliberately, so that from a short distance the metal reads as a hairline and the diamond appears to sit on the finger unsupported. And the claws are cut wide at the base and tapered to a point, so each one hugs the curve of the oval instead of gripping it with a narrow tip. Wide tapered claws hold a large stone more securely than fine ones, which matters when the band is this slender. Underneath, a hidden halo of pave wraps the basket. Band details

An ultra thin round band with a mirror polish, unbroken the whole way around and set with no stones. It is the finest shank in our range, chosen so the oval looks as large as it possibly can. The only accent diamonds are the hidden halo inside the basket.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. Yellow gold, as photographed, warms the fine band so it almost disappears against the skin. White gold and sterling silver make the whole ring read cooler and the diamond brighter. Rose gold is the softest of the three.

Ring size

Every ring is made to your finger size, so choose your size at checkout. With no stones on the band this resizes easily. If you work with your hands daily, ask us to thicken the shank slightly at no extra cost. Ask us for a free size guide if you are unsure.

Custom orders

We can thicken the band, remove the hidden halo, add pave to the shoulders, or change the shape to pear, marquise or emerald. Moissanite and coloured gemstone centres are also available. Frequently asked questions

Why an ultra thin band?
Scale. The eye judges the size of a diamond partly against the metal next to it, so a finer shank makes the same stone look larger. It also puts more of the price into the stone rather than the mounting.

Are tapered claws better than plain ones?
For a large oval, yes. A claw that is broad at the base and narrowed toward the tip has more metal where the strength is needed and less metal covering the diamond. It grips the curved edge of an oval more evenly than a straight round claw.

What is a hidden halo?
A row of small diamonds set into the basket beneath the centre stone, facing outward instead of upward. It is invisible from above and only shows in profile, so the ring stays a clean solitaire from the front.

Is a thin band durable enough for daily wear?
Yes in normal wear. It is solid metal, not hollow, and 14K or 18K gold is harder than 10K or sterling silver if you want extra margin. We can also thicken the shank on request.

Why is oval the most requested shape?
It spreads its weight lengthwise rather than downward, so it covers more finger than a round of the same carat weight, and the elongated outline lengthens the finger visually.

Do I get a certificate?
Yes. A free IGI certificate for the centre stone comes with every order, listing colour, clarity, cut and carat weight.

Will it sit flush with a wedding band?
Yes, and better than most. The hidden halo lifts the head only slightly and the fine plain shank leaves a clean line for a matching band to sit against.

Why buy a lab grown diamond

A lab grown diamond is chemically and optically the same as a mined one, graded on the same scales by the same laboratories, at a fraction of the price. On a setting this minimal almost the entire price is the stone, which is what makes a VVS2 E colour oval at 4 or 5 carat possible here. It is grown rather than excavated, so there is no mining involved and the origin is never in question.
