An oval cut lab grown diamond in a four prong head, carried on a band of round diamonds set individually with clear gaps of polished metal between them. Jewellers call this a bubble or floating band, because each stone reads as a separate point of light rather than dissolving into the continuous line of a pave shank. The spacing is what makes it work, it keeps the band slim on the finger, it lets the metal colour show through, and it stops the shoulders competing with the centre stone. Every diamond is a laboratory grown diamond, identical in carbon structure, hardness and brilliance to a mined diamond, graded E colour and VVS2 clarity. All gold options are solid gold, never plated or filled. White gold is finished with rhodium for a bright white surface and is the metal shown in the photographs, where the gaps between the accents read as bright as the stones themselves. In yellow or rose gold the spacing shows up far more strongly, because the warm metal frames each accent individually.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bubble or floating diamond band

It is a shank where each accent diamond is set on its own, with a visible gap of metal on either side, instead of being bead set shoulder to shoulder as in pave. Because light passes around every stone rather than along a single line, the band sparkles as a series of distinct points. It is a good middle ground for anyone who finds a plain band too quiet and a full pave band too busy.

How is this different from a pave band

Pave sets small stones tightly together so the metal almost disappears and the shank reads as one continuous surface of diamond. A floating band deliberately leaves metal showing. Pave gives more total sparkle, a floating band gives more definition and a lighter look on the hand, and it also collects less dirt because there are fewer tiny beads and channels to trap it.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond

Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index and the same fire and brilliance as a mined diamond. The only difference is that it was grown in a controlled laboratory over a few weeks instead of underground over billions of years. No jeweller can tell the difference by eye, only specialist equipment reading growth patterns can separate the two.

Can this band be resized

Yes, within a reasonable range, and more easily than a full eternity or full pave band, because there is plain metal between the accents that a jeweller can work with. Tell us if you expect your size to change and we will position the accents to leave room at the base of the shank.

Does this ring come with a certificate

Yes. Every ring ships with a free IGI certificate for the centre stone. IGI is the International Gemological Institute, one of the largest independent diamond grading laboratories in the world. The certificate confirms the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade and the laboratory grown origin. There is no extra charge for the certificate.

Why do oval diamonds look bigger than round diamonds of the same weight

An oval spreads its weight across a longer surface, so for the same carat weight it presents a larger face up area than a round brilliant, typically around ten percent more. It also elongates the finger visually. That is why oval is the most requested elongated shape for engagement rings.

What does E colour VVS2 actually mean

E colour is the second highest grade on the diamond colour scale and sits inside the colourless range, so the diamond looks bright white with no warm or yellow tint. VVS2 means very very slightly included, the second highest clarity tier. Any inclusions are so small that a trained grader needs 10x magnification to find them and they are completely invisible to the naked eye.

Every piece is made to order, so nothing is pulled off a shelf. Production takes about 10 to 12 working days and shipping is 3 to 5 working days after that with tracked international courier. We accept returns and exchanges within 30 days of delivery on unworn pieces in original condition.

A lab grown diamond gives you a materially identical stone for a fraction of the price of a mined equivalent, which is what makes a 4 carat or 5 carat oval centre realistic on a normal budget. Because the origin of every stone is documented from the moment it is grown, a lab grown diamond is conflict free by definition. Growing a diamond also avoids the open pit excavation, land disruption and water use that mining a comparable stone requires, so the environmental cost is considerably lower.
