An oval brilliant and an emerald cut set upright side by side on a single shank, both standing the same way up rather than one tilted against the other. That upright symmetry is what separates this from most two stone rings, where the stones are angled to nest together. Here they stand parallel like a matched pair, and because one is a rounded brilliant and the other a rectangular step cut, the contrast is between the two outlines rather than between two angles. There is no halo of any kind, hidden or visible, and no pave. Four claws hold each stone, the band is plain and slim, and nothing else is added. E colour, VVS2 clarity, free IGI certificates. An emerald cut has a large open table that picks up the colour of whatever surrounds it, so the metal reads through the stone more than it would on a brilliant. Yellow and rose gold warm both diamonds noticeably. White gold and sterling silver keep them as cold and clear as possible.

Frequently asked questions

What does toi et moi mean?
French for you and me. Two stones set together to represent two people, a design associated with Napoleon's proposal to Josephine and heavily revived in recent years.

How is this different from your other pear and emerald toi et moi rings?
Those use a pear, which is pointed and therefore tilted against its partner, and one of them carries hidden halos under both stones. This pairs an oval with an emerald cut, sets both upright and parallel, and has no halo anywhere.

Why pair an oval with an emerald cut?
They handle light in opposite ways. An oval is brilliant faceted and sparkles finely, an emerald cut is step faceted and gives broad flashes. Standing them upright side by side makes that difference easy to see.

Does clarity matter more on the emerald cut?
Yes. Its large open table leaves inclusions nowhere to hide, unlike a brilliant where sparkle masks a great deal. VVS2 is comfortably above the level where anything would be visible.

Can I wear a wedding band with it?
Yes. The shank is slim and straight, so a plain band sits flush beside it.
