A marquise cut lab grown diamond surrounded by a true halo of small round diamonds, the outer edge of the halo worked in milgrain, on a shank carrying marquise stations. Unlike a concealed halo this one is visible from above and it changes the outline of the ring completely.

A halo around a marquise is the hardest halo in jewellery to make convincing. Around a round stone the accents are all the same size and the ring closes on itself without argument. A marquise has two acute points, and a halo that follows the outline has to negotiate them by reducing the stones as the curve tightens and then turning the corner on a single tiny accent set almost on its edge. Get it wrong and the tips of the halo either splay outward, making the whole thing look like a leaf that has been trodden on, or pinch inward and leave a dark notch. The milgrain edge is doing more than decoration here as well: a row of beads follows a curve far more forgivingly than a polished flat edge, which shows every deviation as a change in reflection. On the tightest part of the curve, milgrain is what allows the outline to look continuous.

Band details

The shank is fine and rises to meet the halo without shoulders, so the halo itself is the widest part of the ring. The stations sit low and the lower half of the band is plain.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. Yellow gold is shown in the photographs, where the warm milgrain edge draws the outline of the halo clearly against the white stones inside it.

A row of tiny beads worked along an edge by hand. On a tight curve it follows the line far more forgivingly than a polished flat edge.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. A marquise halo with hand applied milgrain is slow work, so production usually takes fourteen to eighteen working days before dispatch.
