A marquise cut lab grown diamond set north south inside a continuous rim of metal that traces the whole outline of the stone, drawing to a sharp point at each end. There are no claws anywhere on this ring. Bezel setting a marquise is harder than bezel setting a round, because the rim has to be worked to a true point twice without thickening and blunting the shape, and it is the reason this design looks so clean. The points are fully enclosed and therefore fully protected, which solves the marquise's one practical weakness without adding the visible V tips that a claw setting needs. Beneath the bezel the shoulders rise in a fine cathedral arch and the band stays slim throughout. The back of the setting is open so light reaches the pavilion. Band details

A fine plain band that rises into a cathedral arch to meet the bezel and runs unbroken around the rest of the finger. No stones, engraving or milgrain.

Metal options

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. A bezel puts a solid outline of metal directly against the stone, so the contrast between band and diamond is stronger here than on any claw setting. Yellow and rose gold draw the pointed marquise outline as a bold line. White gold and sterling silver let the rim disappear into the stone so the shape reads as pure diamond.

Frequently asked questions

Why bezel set a marquise?
Because the points are the vulnerable part of the stone and a bezel encloses them completely. It is the most protective setting available and it does it without the visible V tips that a claw setting requires.

How is this different from your V tip marquise solitaire?
That ring is claw set, with V tips capping the points and a straight slim shank. This one has no claws at all. A continuous rim holds the whole girdle, and the shoulders rise in a cathedral arch.

Does a bezel make the diamond look smaller?
The rim covers the very edge of the girdle, but the added metal outline usually makes the head read larger from a distance, particularly in white gold where the rim blends into the stone.

Is the back of the setting open?
Yes. The pavilion is visible from underneath, which lets light in from the sides and keeps the stone bright despite the enclosing rim.

Is this practical for everyday wear?
Very. A bezel has no prongs to bend or snag and the marquise points are shielded, which makes this one of the most hard wearing ways to own an elongated stone.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
