Why pears against an emerald cut

A pear is a brilliant cut, so it throws small bright flashes while the emerald gives long steady ones. Putting the two together means the ring never looks flat under indoor light, which is the one criticism people make of a plain emerald cut solitaire.

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Pay attention to the claw covering the point of each pear, which is the tightest corner on the ring. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.
