One large marquise cut accent sits on each shoulder, laid across the band rather than along it, so it reads as a single leaf turned to face outward. Around it a strand of graduated round accents curves away toward the back of the ring, and a second plain strand edged with milgrain twists over the top of both.

The three elements are different sizes on purpose. The marquise is the largest thing on the band, the rounds step down away from it, and the milgrain strand ties them together.

How it compares

Our open branch lattice ring uses several small marquise stones set into pierced metal. This design uses one big one per side and gives it a solid setting, so the leaf is unmistakable rather than suggested. It is also the only emerald ring in the range where a marquise accent is the largest stone on the band, which makes it read closer to a three stone ring than a pave one.

Why an emerald cut

Two strong shapes on one ring need a referee. The straight sides and flat table of a step cut sit between the two marquise leaves and stop them competing with each other across the middle of the ring.

Wearing and stacking

The marquise stones sit level with the girdle rather than standing up, so nothing catches. A straight wedding band meets the back of the shank cleanly and passes below the leaves.

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat. Setting a marquise crosswise on a curved band is harder than setting it lengthways, because both points have to be supported on metal that is falling away on either side. Every ring is made after you order, usually within 18 to 22 working days.

Care

Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush. Brush around each marquise and along the pave. Rinse and dry by patting with a lint free cloth so nothing catches on the milgrain or the marquise points.
