Emerald Cut Moissanite Wide Flat Cigar Band Engagement Ring

An emerald cut moissanite set in four small claws directly onto a wide flat band, about 6 mm across. There is no head lifting the stone, no gallery and no accent stones. The claws sit right on the surface of the band, so the stone appears to float on a broad ribbon of polished metal.

This is a bold, architectural ring rather than a traditional one. The wide flat surface acts like a mirror on either side of the centre stone, and because the emerald cut is a step cut with long clean lines, the two read as one continuous rectangle. It is the sort of design that looks modern in white gold and quite ancient in yellow gold, which is why the same ring appeals to two very different people.

We keep every design as its own listing. Our ribbed croissant ring is a 3 mm domed band carved into ridges, so its surface is broken up and rounded. This ring is twice as wide, completely flat, and completely smooth. There is no texture at all, which means every mark and every reflection shows, and that is the point of the design. If you want presence from the metal rather than from the stones, this is the widest and plainest ring we make in the emerald cut range.

Metals and sizes

Choose from 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. All gold is solid, not plated and not filled. White gold is rhodium finished. On a band this wide the metal is the loudest part of the ring, so the colour choice matters more than usual. Yellow gold gives the design its warm, sculptural look; white gold makes it read cooler and more contemporary. Centre stone sizes run from 2 carat to 5 carat.

Pricing note

This band is 6 mm wide against our standard 2 mm, so it uses a great deal more metal. Our band width surcharge is applied to every variant, which is why this ring is priced well above our slim band solitaires. The premium is in the weight of the metal, not in the setting.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India. Every ring is made by our own team after you order. A flat wide band is difficult to finish well, because any waviness in the surface is immediately visible; ours are filed and polished flat by hand before the stone is set. If you would like the band narrower, or a brushed rather than polished finish, tell us in the order notes before we begin and we will make it that way.

Care

Moissanite is 9.25 on the Mohs scale and copes well with daily wear. Clean with warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft cloth. A wide polished surface will collect fine scratches with wear; this is normal for any plain gold band and we can repolish it back to new at any time. Take the ring off before gym work, gardening or handling rough surfaces, and store it separately so harder stones do not mark the band.

Sizing and resizing

A wide band fits more snugly than a narrow one at the same nominal size, so many people take a half size larger in a 6 mm width than in a 2 mm width. Tell us your usual size and we will advise. The band can be resized by about one size after it is made, though on a flat band of this width we would much rather make it correctly the first time.

Questions people ask

Is the centre stone a diamond? No. It is moissanite, a distinct gemstone with its own properties. We do not present it as a diamond.

Is the band solid? Yes. It is solid metal at full width, which is why it feels heavy and why the price reflects the extra material.

Can I wear a wedding band with it? Most people wear this one alone, because a 6 mm band already covers a lot of the finger. If you want a second ring, a very slim 1.5 mm band on the other hand or on an adjacent finger balances it better than stacking.

Will it feel uncomfortable? The edges are rounded rather than square, which makes a wide band far more comfortable than people expect. If you have small hands or short fingers, tell us and we can make it in 4 mm or 5 mm instead.

Does the price change with carat size? Yes. The 2 carat is the base price and each larger size adds a small amount. The exact price appears when you select a combination.
