Emerald Cut Moissanite Halo Three Quarter Pave Cathedral Engagement Ring

An emerald cut moissanite surrounded by a full halo of round brilliant accents, on a cathedral shank paved three quarters of the way around. The halo follows the octagonal outline of the centre stone rather than sitting as a plain rectangle, the prongs holding the centre stone are themselves accented, and pave continues down the outer face of the band and across the sides of the halo. It is the brightest ring in this collection by a wide margin.

Why this ring works

An emerald cut has a wide flat table and few facets, so it returns light in broad calm planes rather than sparkle. Ringing it with small round brilliants surrounds that calm centre with the exact opposite, which makes the step cut look luminous by contrast and adds perhaps a millimetre and a half to its apparent size on every side. Three quarter coverage on the shank is the deliberate part: pave stops before the base of the ring, which keeps the underside smooth, leaves plain metal for resizing, and stops the design tipping into fully encrusted.

Setting and band

Four accented claw prongs hold the corners of the emerald cut, each prong itself set with a small round accent. A full halo of round brilliant moissanite surrounds the centre stone, following its octagonal outline including the clipped corners, and the outer sides of the halo are paved as well. The cathedral shoulders rise from the shank to support the head. Round brilliant accents are bead set along the outer face of the band for roughly three quarters of its circumference, stopping before the base. Band width is approximately two millimetres. Metal is solid throughout with a polished interior.

Metal options

Choose from recycled 925 sterling silver, or solid 10K, 14K and 18K gold in yellow, rose and white. White gold, as photographed, is what a halo design is built for, because the metal disappears between the stones and the halo reads as an unbroken ring of light. Yellow and rose gold outline each accent individually, which gives a more antique, more visible halo. White gold is rhodium finished.

Ring sizing

Every ring is made to order in your size. Sizes run from 3 to 13, including half sizes. The plain quarter at the base of the shank allows minor adjustment later, which is exactly why the pave stops where it does. Contact us if you are unsure and we will help before production starts.

Care

This ring has more stone settings than any other design here, and every one of them holds soap film and hand cream. A dirty halo goes grey and stops reading as light. Clean every two to three weeks with warm water, mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush, working around the halo from underneath and along the pave in both directions. Rinse and dry with a lint free cloth.

Questions people ask

How much bigger does a halo make the stone look? Roughly a millimetre and a half on each side, which on a 2 carat emerald cut is a visible difference. It does not change the actual centre stone weight.

What are accented prongs? Each of the four claws holding the centre stone carries a tiny set accent of its own, so the prong reads as a point of light rather than a bar of metal across the stone.

Why does the pave stop three quarters of the way around? It keeps the underside comfortable, leaves metal for resizing, and means the part of the ring that rubs against your other fingers has no stones in it to work loose.

Which metal should I choose? White gold or sterling silver for a seamless halo. Yellow or rose gold for a warmer antique effect where each accent reads separately. For daily wear over decades, 14K balances colour and durability best.
