An emerald cut lab grown diamond stands upright between two tapered baguettes, all three held in claws above a slim band pave set with round brilliants. The three principal stones are step cuts, and that is the whole idea of the ring.

A step cut works differently from a brilliant. Instead of hundreds of small facets scattering light into flashes of colour, it uses long parallel facets cut in terraces, which return light in broad plates. The result is not sparkle but flash: wide clean returns that appear and vanish as the hand turns, and a view straight down into the stone that brilliants never give. Setting an emerald cut between two tapered baguettes multiplies the effect, because the baguettes are cut on the same principle and can be oriented so their tables sit level with the table of the centre stone. When the three tables lie in one plane the whole top of the ring behaves as a single mirror rather than three separate ones. The pave on the shank is then the only brilliant cut element in the design, and it is there deliberately: it supplies the fine scintillation that step cuts withhold, at the one place where it will not compete with the flashes above.

Band details

The shank is narrow and flat topped so the pave sits in a straight line rather than curving away from view. It steps up at the shoulders to meet the baguettes, then continues at even width, and the lower half is left plain for comfort and for resizing.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. The photographs show yellow gold, which frames the open table of an emerald cut particularly well because the warm surround makes the clean interior read as brighter by contrast.

They flash rather than sparkle. If you want continuous glitter a brilliant cut is the better choice. If you want clean architecture and broad returns of light, this is the cut that gives it.

Are tapered baguettes durable
Yes. Their corners are the vulnerable areas and here each is covered by a claw. Their flat sides also sit tight against the centre stone, which reduces movement.

What length to width ratio do you use
We select emerald cuts close to 1.40 to 1.50, which most people find balanced. Tell us if you prefer a squarer or longer outline.

How long does the ring take to make
Each ring is made to order. Production usually takes ten to fourteen working days before dispatch.
