This is the plainest way to set a large step cut, and for many people it is the only way. An emerald cut is chosen for its outline and its clarity rather than for fire, so anything set beside it competes with the exact quality it was bought for. Here the band is narrow, rounded and completely unset, the claws are drawn as thin as security allows, and the head sits low so the stone appears to rest directly on the finger.

Under the stone the gallery is cut away into two open loops that meet at the base of each claw, which does two things. It lets light in from beneath the pavilion, and it takes weight out of a head that would otherwise look heavy under a five carat stone. Even at the largest size the ring keeps a slender line from every direction.

Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

Does the ring come with a certificate

What is an emerald cut
A rectangular step cut with cropped corners and long parallel facets. It has a wide open table and gives broad slow flashes of light rather than fast sparkle, which is why it is often described as the most elegant of the step cuts.
