An emerald cut lab grown diamond held in four claws over a squared open basket, on a half round band that tapers slightly as it rises to the head. There are no accent stones anywhere on the ring.

The basket is the detail worth looking at. Rather than a rounded cage, the metal under the stone is built as a square box with straight rails, so it repeats the geometry of the step cut sitting on top of it. Seen from the side you get parallel lines under the diamond instead of curves, which is a small thing that makes the whole ring look considered.

The band is half round in section, flat inside and gently domed outside, and it narrows as it approaches the setting. That taper does two jobs. It makes the stone look wider than the shank, and it keeps the metal thin where your fingers meet and thicker where the ring takes wear.

This is the plainest kind of engagement ring to make well. With nothing to distract the eye, every line has to be true and every surface has to be properly finished, which is why we polish these by hand rather than tumbling them.

Band details

An even, comfortable shank with a flat inner surface, which stops the ring spinning on the finger. Because there is no pave, this is one of the easiest designs in our range to size and to look after.

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. Every metal is fully hallmarked. White gold is finished with rhodium for a bright cool white. On a plain solitaire the metal colour is the only colour decision you make, so pick what you like wearing.

Is the center stone a real diamond
Yes. A lab grown diamond is real diamond. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond. The only difference is where it was grown.

Does the ring come with a certificate
Yes. An IGI certificate for the center stone is included at no extra charge.

Why is the basket squared
Because the stone is. A square box basket lines up with the outline of an emerald cut, supports the corners properly and looks intentional from the side. Round baskets are quicker to make but they fight the shape of a step cut.

Are there any small diamonds on this ring
No. It is a plain metal solitaire by design. We can add a hidden halo as a custom order if you want light under the stone.

Can this ring be resized later
Yes, easily, in either direction. Your first resizing with us is free.

How is this different from your other plain solitaires
Our cathedral solitaire lifts the stone on arched shoulders with cut out windows. Our slim polished band solitaire keeps a very fine even shank. This one has a tapering half round band and a squared box basket, so it sits low with straight lines under the stone.

Does a wedding band sit flush against it
Yes. The shank is straight and the basket sits close to the finger, so a plain, pave or eternity band sits neatly beside it.

Is it comfortable for daily wear
Very. Nothing protrudes, there is no pave to snag, and the flat inner surface keeps the ring stable on the finger.

Which metal should I choose
Yellow gold for warmth and contrast against the diamond, white gold or sterling silver to make the stone look as large as possible, rose gold for a softer tone.
