An emerald cut lab grown diamond in four claws with a tapered baguette lying flat against each side, capped at its outer end by a squared bar of metal, on a plain slim band.

This is the classic Art Deco pairing and it works because both stones are step cuts. The emerald cut and the baguettes share the same long parallel facets and the same broad slow return of light, so the head reads as one continuous run of straight lines across the finger rather than as three separate gems. The baguettes taper, wider where they meet the centre stone and narrowing as they travel outward, which carries the eye along the finger and makes the head appear longer than it is.

The setting matters as much as the stones. Each baguette is held between two walls of metal, the collar of the centre stone at its inner end and a short squared bar at its outer end, gripping the full width of the stone at each end and leaving both long sides completely clear. There are no claws sitting on the corners of the baguettes, which is the point. Claw beads on a step cut interrupt exactly the straight edges the cut exists for. The bar at the end closes the line cleanly, and the band behind it is plain and unset.

Yes. It has the same carbon crystal structure, the same hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale and the same optical behaviour as a mined diamond, and it is graded on the same scales by the same laboratories.

What is a tapered baguette
A step cut rectangle that is wider at one end than the other. Set with the wide end against the centre stone, it draws the eye outward along the finger.

Why bar set the baguettes instead of using claws
A baguette is all straight lines and sharp corners. Claw beads sitting on those corners interrupt them, where a bar grips the full width of each end and leaves the long sides clean.

Are bar set stones secure
Yes, very. The metal holds the whole width of each end rather than four small points, and nothing stands proud to be knocked or levered.

Do step cut side stones show inclusions more
Yes, their long open facets hide far less than a brilliant does, which is why we use VS clarity for the sides and VVS2 for the centre.

Will a wedding band sit flush
Yes. The sides are set low and level with the girdle, so a plain band meets the shank cleanly.

Can this ring be resized
Yes, easily. The shank is plain and unset.
