The outside of the bezel wall carries a full rail of pave running the entire way around, and the bridge of metal that spans beneath the head is set with a line of diamonds on its inner face, where only the wearer can see it.

Jewellers call that inner detail a peekaboo or a surprise setting, and it comes from a simple observation: the underside of a ring is the part its owner looks at most and everyone else never sees. A stone set there returns nothing to an observer, which is exactly the point. What it does do is catch light through the open sides of the gallery when the hand moves, so the wearer sees a flash from inside the ring that no one across the table gets. The pave rail around the bezel serves the opposite purpose. It sits at the height of the girdle where a plain bezel wall would otherwise be a blank band of metal, and it turns the profile view, which is how the ring is seen most often at conversational distance, into the brightest angle rather than the dullest.
