Two kinds of accent, doing different jobs

The pave on the shoulders is what you see face on: a continuous line of light leading to the centre stone. The hidden halo is what you see in profile, and only in profile. Together they surround the diamond with small stones without any of them crossing its outline, so the cushion still reads as a cushion.

The halo is set before assembly

Small stones go into the sides of the basket while the head is still separate, because once it is joined to the band there is no access. It is a step that has to be planned from the start; a hidden halo cannot be added neatly to a finished ring, though we can always remake the head.

Pave that stops where it should

The band is set along the front and sides and left plain at the back. That keeps the stones away from the part of the ring that takes the most wear, makes resizing straightforward, and is the reason pave shoulders outlast a full eternity of small stones on a daily worn ring.

What laboratory grown means here

A laboratory grown diamond is a diamond. It is crystallised carbon with the same cubic structure, the same 10 on the Mohs scale, the same refractive index of 2.42 and the same dispersion as a mined stone. Ours are grown by chemical vapour deposition and high pressure high temperature methods, then cut and polished by hand. This is not moissanite, not cubic zirconia and not a simulant. A gemmologist testing it will read diamond, because it is diamond.

Metals

Choose 925 sterling silver, or 10K, 14K or 18K gold in yellow, rose or white. This ring was photographed in yellow gold, but every metal is made to order and priced above. A yellow band with a white metal halo and pave settings is a popular combination, since it makes the small stones read brighter; tell us if you want it made that way. White gold is rhodium plated and will want replating every one to two years.

Every centre stone arrives IGI certified

The centre diamond is graded by IGI, the International Gemological Institute, and the certificate comes with the ring at no extra charge. It states the carat weight, the E colour grade, the VVS2 clarity grade, the measurements and the girdle inscription, and confirms in writing that the stone is laboratory grown. Every accent is matched to the same E and VVS2 grade.

Made to order in our own workshop

Mapple Gems is a family run workshop in Surat, India, where most of the world's diamonds are cut and polished. The halo is set into the basket first, the head is joined to the band, and the pave is set last so the small stones sit level along a shank that is already true. Allow two to three weeks for making, plus shipping.

About the photographs

One photograph shows this ring with several stacking bands, and one shows it worn with a plain band. Those pieces are separate and are not included. The ring box shown is our standard packaging and comes with every order.

Looking after it

Warm water, mild washing up liquid and a soft toothbrush, brushing up into the hidden halo from below and along both sides of the pave. Take it off for the gym, gardening and swimming.

Questions we are asked

What colour and clarity are the diamonds? The centre cushion and every accent are E colour and VVS2 clarity, on all metals and all carat weights.

Does the carat weight include the halo and pave? No. The 2, 3, 4 and 5 carat options refer to the centre cushion. All accents are in addition.

Is the certificate really free? Yes. The IGI report for the centre stone is included in the price on every variant.

Do pave stones fall out? Rarely, when they are set properly and the band is left plain at the back. If one ever does, send the ring to us and we will replace it.

Will a wedding band sit flush? Yes, against the plain back of the shank. A straight band sits neatly beside the pave shoulders.

Can it be resized? Yes, at the back where the band is plain. One or two sizes either way is straightforward.
