A marquise cut lab grown diamond set east to west on a slim plain band. A marquise is the most elongated of the classic cuts, a long navette with a point at each end, and turning it across the finger is a genuinely different proposition from the usual north south setting. Worn sideways, the stone spans the finger and reads as a bold horizontal line rather than a tapering spear. The band is left completely plain so nothing competes with that shape. Side stone details

This ring has no side stones. The shank is plain from end to end, which is what keeps the east west line clean and lets the marquise carry the whole design.

Available in 925 sterling silver, 10K yellow gold, 10K rose gold, 10K white gold, 14K yellow gold, 14K rose gold, 14K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold and 18K white gold. With no accent stones anywhere, the metal is half of what you see, so the colour choice matters more here than on a pave design. Yellow gold gives the ring a warm vintage feel, white gold a sharper modern one. For everyday wear 14K is harder than 18K, which matters on a marquise because the points are the vulnerable part.

Frequently asked questions

What does east west mean on a marquise?
The stone is rotated so its long axis runs across the finger rather than along it. Because a marquise is the longest of the common cuts, the change is more dramatic here than on any other shape.

Will the points stick out past my finger?
On a narrow finger, quite possibly, especially at 4 and 5 carat. That is the main thing to consider before choosing east west on a marquise. If you have slim fingers and want a large stone, the north south orientation is the safer choice, and we build that version too.

Are marquise points fragile?
They are the thinnest part of the stone, which is why both ends sit under V prongs that cap the tips in metal. A marquise set with ordinary prongs at the points is the version that chips, and we do not build them that way.

Why a plain band?
An east west marquise is already an unusual silhouette. Adding pave or a halo tends to fight it. The plain shank keeps the ring legible and also makes it far easier to pair with a wedding band later.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
