An emerald cut lab grown diamond set east to west, meaning the stone lies across the finger rather than running along it, on a band bead set with pave. Turning an emerald cut sideways changes the whole character of the ring. Instead of pointing up the finger like a conventional solitaire, the long axis of the stone spans the width of the finger, which reads as modern and deliberate and gives the ring a horizontal, architectural line. Frequently asked questions

What does east west mean?
The stone is rotated ninety degrees so its long axis runs across the finger instead of along it. The diamond is exactly the same, only its orientation in the setting changes.

Does an east west setting suit everyone?
It suits shorter or wider fingers particularly well, because a long stone set lengthways can overhang the finger while the same stone set across it sits neatly within the width. On very slender fingers the stone may extend past the sides, which some people like and others do not.

Is it less traditional?
Yes, deliberately. East west is a modern styling choice and reads as such. If you want a classic engagement ring silhouette, choose one of our north south emerald cut rings instead.

Does the orientation affect durability?
No. The prongs sit on the cropped corners of the emerald cut either way, so the stone is held the same. The only practical difference is that a sideways stone can catch on things across the hand rather than along it.

Is a lab grown diamond a real diamond?
Yes. Same carbon structure, hardness and brilliance as a mined diamond. Only the origin differs.
