Round Moissanite U-Prong Eternity Band: A Buyer’s Guide

A full circle of round stones in scalloped U-shaped prongs. Why the U-prong shows more of each stone, and why sizing is everything with a full eternity band.

Written by the Mapple Gems workshop, Surat Β· Updated 13 October 2026

Short answer: This full eternity band sets round brilliant moissanites all the way round the finger in U-shaped prongs, which leave more of each stone exposed and give the sides a scalloped look. It is made to order in 925 silver or solid 10K, 14K or 18K gold. Because stones go all the way round, it cannot be resized β€” measure carefully before ordering.

Round brilliants in a continuous circle are the classic eternity band. The U-prong version lifts each stone slightly and cuts the metal away beneath it in a U, so light reaches every stone from the sides as well as the top. Our latest order was in sterling silver.

Round moissanite U-prong eternity band detail

What a U-prong setting is

Band setting How stones are held Light Side profile
Channel Between two metal walls From above Solid metal
Shared prong One prong between two stones Above and between Straight
U-prong (this band) Prongs with a U cut beneath each stone Above and sides Scalloped

The trade-off is that less metal surrounds each stone. That is why U-prong bands deserve a setting check every couple of years β€” the underside of a full eternity band meets door handles and bags all day.

Sizing a full eternity band

A ring is resized by cutting and adjusting plain metal. A full eternity band has none, so it cannot be made larger or smaller later. Measure when your fingers are largest β€” usually in the evening and in warm weather β€” using the inside diameter of a ring that already fits that finger, in millimetres. If you will wear it next to an engagement ring, measure with both rings on.

From the workshop

Our latest customer chose this band in sterling silver. In silver (about Mohs 2.6), the small prongs of a U-prong band are the part that wears, especially on the underside, which takes far more knocks than the top. Once a month, roll the band slowly and look at the stones underneath: if one looks raised or slightly tilted, stop wearing it and have it checked. And because these stones are far harder than any metal, store the band alone β€” one pouch per ring.

Before you order: a short checklist

  1. Measure your finger in the evening, as an inside diameter in millimetres.
  2. Size with your engagement ring on if you will stack them.
  3. Consider whether your size is likely to change; if so, a half eternity is safer.
  4. Choose 14K gold for daily wear; silver for occasional wear.
  5. Plan a setting check every one to two years.

Frequently asked questions

What is a U-prong setting?

A setting where small prongs hold each stone and the metal beneath it is cut in a U shape, letting light in from the sides and giving a scalloped profile.

Can a full eternity band be resized?

No. Stones go all the way round, so there is no plain metal to adjust.

Is a U-prong band durable?

Yes with care. Less metal surrounds each stone, so have the settings checked every couple of years.

When should I measure for an eternity band?

When your fingers are largest, usually in the evening and in warm weather.

Can I wear it with an engagement ring?

Yes. Size for both rings together and store them separately.
